D3 announced a partnership with Identity Digital that looks like it’s going to be a bridge between Web2 and Web3.
Awhile back I interviewed Shane Cultra who works for D3 and he had mentioned D3 will be applying and bringing new gTLDs to market in the next round.
A few weeks ago D3 did a post on their site about DomainFi and how it will solve a multitude of problems.
From the article:
How DomainFi Differs from Existing Web3 Solutions
While several Web3 projects have attempted to redefine domains, DomainFi stands out for its focus on:
- Interoperability with Web2 and Web3: Rather than creating isolated digital assets, DomainFi seeks to bridge the gap, making domains compatible with the existing internet infrastructure. As an example, Fred.ape should work not only as my Web3 wallet identifier but also as a domain name that I can host a website at.
- Security and Trust: By building compliance mechanisms and validation protocols, DomainFi ensures that tokenized domains are trusted, secure, and verifiable, unlike many decentralized domain alternatives.
- Innovative Use Cases and Partnerships: With partnerships and access to over 15 major Web3 ecosystems and hundreds of TLDs, DomainFi is poised to bring tangible use cases to accelerate the adoption of tokenized domains.
Press Release
/PRNewswire/ — D3 Global, a next-generation internet infrastructure company developing the first authoritative domain network, today announced a strategic registry partnership with Identity Digital, a leader in connecting the online world with domain names and related technologies. The initial phase of the partnership aims to tokenize new domains for billions of users on the Domain Name System (DNS) to deliver interoperability Web2 and Web3.
“Through our strategic partnership with Identity Digital, D3 will build an innovative global platform to ‘financialize’ all domains and enable access to them for all users on the internet,” said Fred Hsu, CEO & Co-Founder of D3. “By building on the DNS, we can unleash the potential of existing and future domains as authoritative, real-world assets that are trusted and secure, with low-friction liquidity.”
“D3 is working to bridge Web2 and Web3 name spaces by leveraging the power of the DNS in a collaborative, responsible and standardized way,” said Matt Overman, Chief Revenue Officer at Identity Digital. “We are excited to embrace the innovation taking place in the name space, and D3’s role in it. Growth in this space depends upon scalability and resilience, a hallmark of Identity Digital’s platform.”
