Godaddy increases DDC price 2x – $240 a year

November 18, 2020 by Raymond Hackney

GoDaddy DDC

Michael M posted on Namepros that his new renewal for Domain Discount Club at GoDaddy will be $239.99.

His sentiments are shared by many:

Michael M wrote:

My thought is they really don’t care and about domainers anymore. They want that end user big money they charge without DDC – and on the flip side domainers will pay about anything for DDC because they are forced into it to use the monopoly of GD Expired Auctions at a lower price point per domain acquisition.

Sucks cause I have been loyal to them even when there were cheaper options out there, because they have always been solid. They seem solid no more.

There are plenty of other options to acquire domains, and I try to stand on principles even if it inconveniences or costs me. I have a serious decision to make, and very little time to make it.

Actually disappoints me more than anything.

Many like Brad Mugford have weighed in with their thoughts on Namepros. Some asking where was the press release?

Ridiculous price increase! Told you GoDaddy does not care domainers anymore, they only care about their shareholders!

Ok, so what is the alternative to GoDaddy? GodDaddy used to be the cheapest with coupons.

Still is the cheapest if you are in the DDC.

Domainers cost too much for too few. I suggest a domain name price increase to et rid of time wasters.

    Whaaaa. Someone call a wambulance.

If you’re in the DDC, you pay $8.47 for a .com down from the regular price of $17.99. If you’re any kind of domainer with a respectable portfolio you’ve probably got a few hundred domains. Thus this price increase is going to cost you a few cents per domain. You’re still saving a ton of money each year and GoDaddy prices are still the cheapest around.

This is a racket. One of the things I’ve always hated.

You will not be paying “$8.47 for a .com down from the regular price of $17.99.” You will be paying that plus the cost of the DDC membership spread over every domain.

Instead, you could use a much better service like Epik and pay only $8.49 as an NP member without having to pay a “membership” fee. Last I heard, even significantly less if you deposit funds a certain way or amount (look into it yourself). Better service, support, software, escrow, everything. And there are a handful of others that are also much better than GoDaddy. GoDaddy has become nothing but a name built on past Super Bowl commercials.

I never had any major sales occur using the GoDaddy platform, but I’ve had several five figure sales occur resulting from contact through the Epik platform including two recent ones. And I don’t even put the kind of effort into selling that most of you do because I’m an en user first, seller second.

As I said, this is going to cost you a few cents more per domain if you have any kind of sizable portfolio. ie. the cost of the DDC membership spread across your domains. We’re saying the same thing, just different ways.

I’ll take a look at Epik.

Been using Epik since 2016 now. Can’t recommend them more highly. And if you like escrow, theirs is in a class by itself. Just recently used it to sell a few for five figures each and buy one for five figures. Nothing like it.

PS – By way of history, many years ago to my recollection you got the good pricing at GoDaddy if you only had 100 domains, did not have to pay any membership fee like that, and were considered to be in the “executive club,” or something like that, though there was no formal membership procedure. Just having 100 domains.

I know, I’ve been with them since shortly after they opened and I transferred my handful of domains at the time from Network Solutions. I’ve had four “executive account managers” over the years as some have left or changed positions. As such I have a permanent DDC discounted rate.

I slowly moved my domains to Uni over the last few years. They gave me a good price as compared to GD increases. I dropped the DC in the process and use Efty or Uni Market. Now Uni is owned by GD but so far no changes in my renewal or reg prices, but not sure how long this will continue. I will consider Epik or another before paying GD.

John beat me to it. Everyone crying about DDC… i left godaddy when they dropped coupons for renewals. Thank God Berkens (or was it you Raymond?) published a post about best/worst registrars and many were raving about Epik. Started using them 2 years ago and never looked back. The heck with godaddy.
