Buyer was begging for a UDRP and got one

September 17, 2020 by Raymond Hackney

BarclaysBank.com

On May 18 I wrote about BarclaysBank.com being sold for $3,003 on NameJet. The domain was registered in 1999 and owned by Roy Edward Messer the man who sold Vodka.com for $3 million in 2006.

In the comments Roy said:

roy e messer says May 18, 2020 at 6:50 am I tried multiple times to GIVE the name to Barclay and no one from the bank followed up on the transfer, thus, i let exprire.

Well Barclays won the UDRP as many expected.

I am not sure who is the most stupid party here: the buyer or the bank that failed to gain ownership of the domain when it did have a chance ? They could have saved the UDRP fee and the aggravation. Heads should roll.

What happen if a recognized company dropped your domain name, intentionally or accidentally and someone registers it, the company still be able to claim it ?
For example: coca-cola dropedd CocaCola .com
    and I register it

“Coca Cola” is a famous mark, so as long as you don’t use it commercially, you would be able to keep it.

There would be no usage where Coca Cola would not come for that domain name.

How would they win if it’s online and not used commercially?

Lol. Dollars to donuts it was a ‘domainer’ that ‘outbound’ those domains to them in the first place.

And if coke paid even $200 for all those, the ‘domainer’ would bring 10 new names the next day.

Coke should just hire the guy to register domain names for them all day!

“The Complainant has registered more than 700 domain names incorporating its COCA-COLA or COKE marks,”..uhh, he was passionate enough!
