New gtld discussion seems to often find a way to bring out the nasty in the business. People cannot have civilized conversation. Or just accept the fact that no one really cares what other people think they should do with their domaining strategy, whether as an investor or an end user.

Look, if the number that exist means something, then rick is being a loser domainer, only have 6500 while others have many more. It’s the same thing. ONE name is ONE name. Most new gtld investors are people who got to the table late, they could not afford good .coms so they made new gtlds to be the next great gold rush. There are some good new gtlds but they are expensive to just register. Anyone who idolizes Donuts is just plain goofy.

Many new sites are building up and ranking nTLD right now. I have strings that shoot up in rankings like .com NEVER could do. I get 25% CTR on some of them in position #8 before it’s in #3 THE NEXT day. See, I actually build sites, track stats. From an ENDUSER point, THEY are MUCH better.
Why aren’t they taking off? MOST people HAVEN’T USED Them yet to know better. Domainers sure as hell dont. Let me tell you, amazon does. That’s right, the EPIC fall in summer of ’17 is largely do to registries having to delete the domains they stuffed the zone with. At the time time, increasing the prices 100%-1000%, to create a little continuous fall. And now, we are recovering. They are seeing REAL use. No more FALLING volume based ZONE STUFFING DELETES and price 1000% GOUGING (and even $1 trick promotions, that NOOBS reg the CRAPPIEST domains with). They are growing and being embraced ORGANICALLY.
Even the chart he posted. Starting the baseline with 22M SKEWS your PERCEPTION to make it seem this volatility is A LOT worse than it is. Imagine if that chart started on 0 domains, their little manipulating would look BAD AT ALL.

Yep. Guy tried stealing it. I couldn’t get ANYTHING from him. He gave me like $20 to do a WHOLE bunch to start his site. THEN OVER And over delayed, and LIED about when. 1 more week, 1 more week. I PUT EVERYTHING ASIDE from him, and when he WOULDN’T follow though on HIS end. When I told him what an JERK he was being, leading me on, wasting my time for practically PEANUTS, kept blaming his ‘partner’. We had a falling he went around and told lies, LOTS of lies. He KEPT the domain, webtoken.net for 4 months. We had WRITTEN agreement that he registered the domain on my behalf with NO STIPULATIONS. I almost wanted to sue him over the $1 on principle. 4 MONTHS. HE wouldn’t even DELETE it until I involved a lawyer.
That guy has gone around and threatened OTHER people with violence too. I COULD write 10 paragraphs on what a POS he is. IT WASN’T ABOUT $1 it was about PRINCIPLE.

Ntldstats shows 2/3 of Donuts registrations are parked, so the idea that Donuts “business is endusers” doesn’t hold water.

Do we know the definition Ntldstats uses for “parked”? If so, using that definition, what is the percentage of .COM than are parked?
Any registry selling new Gs need end users. That is their target audience for any of this to ever work in the long term. This is a long term strategy for all of them.
As for parked domains, I believe that includes those that have been registered at GD for example and have a site coming soon page. Simply websites that haven’t been built out but resolve to a registrar splash page. Most individuals (non-domainers) who have an idea and register a domain more fall into the category of end user because they plan on using it for a business or developing an idea, not resale. They have bought it to use but haven’t done anything with it yet – they are end users and they fall into your parked statistics. So just because it is parked doesn’t mean it’s an end user. Get it?
Also even if investors bought 2/3 of Donuts’ names – that doesn’t mean that their target audience still cannot be end users.
Plus, as a long term game, even for those who got into new Gs as investments – why do you think they want to sell them in the first 5 years? Even DomainSnowflake™ Rick Schwartz had a 20 year plan and tells his disciples not to be desperate and instead wait for inbound. Why the switch of morals when it comes to new Gs? This is the hypocrisy that you Snoopy and Schwartz are well known for.
For new Gs to be successful startups and end users will need to adopt. Moderate end user adoption is much more important than high domainer registration numbers. Again, this is a long term game. Yes many may fail. Many may fail, end up with a new operator and succeed. Many will not fail and will grow steadily.
Look what happened to .mobi – initial spike because of domainers inflating registration numbers but no real end user adoption. Even Rick Schwartz who paid $200k for flowers.mobi and later realized that he was a sucker and let it go for $6k – I don’t think that epic failure gets talked about enough.
It blows my mind the way he talks about other, especially newer domainers after this huge mistake. At the time people thought he was paid by the registry because it seemed like he was throwing money away. He likes to talk about the launch of new Gs being a stampede and which horse do you back… well his $200k bet on flowers.mobi was like he backed a blind, three legged, dead horse.
The fact is most of Donuts names are parked, the main market is domainers and secondly defensive registrations. Endusers are a distant third.
No registry wants domainers as the main buying pool but that is how it is. That is why they don’t spend any money advertising to endusers, it doesn’t work. They know the low hanging fruit is domainers, people who buy hundreds of domains each year.

Not a “fact” to me until we see a clear definition of “parked” by ntldstats.
I have eyeballed the .com zone file, and let me be clear on this, I have opened the gigabytes long .com zone file in a text editor and spent *DAYS* going through the first 1/3. From the way others talk, I am pretty confident they have NOT done this simple step of seeing for themselves the “baseline” of .com and what it really means in terms of actual registrations …. They are mostly useless computer barf. Don’t believe me then do yourself a favor and look at the file. The other TLDs are no where close to the computer barf in the .COM zone file.
So after ntldstats provides its definition, I’d love to know the number for .com.
While I no long go through the .com zone file by eyeball, I do process the zone files every day and periodically take a peek at the data. The computer barf in .com never goes away, it only seems to get worse.
If one want to talk about “desperate” registrations, then .com appear to be the true king. I’d love to see what its’ “parked” numbers are like using the same measurement metric.
