So back on October 16, Patrick Coddou announced his company was making the move from GetSupply.com to Supply.co. The back and forth on Twitter was interesting, sometimes funny, along with those who just made a plug to pitch their own services.
Coddou also called out the “Domain Bros” and called Shane Cultra an idiot.
Shane had tweeted, And tomorrow you will learn what http://O.co and Overstock learned years ago
Coddou replied:
And youβre an idiot. None of you domain bros are willing to put any money behind your armchair quarterback advice. Make a wager or get blocked. $5,000 says I organically outrank supply dot com for the search term supply by the end of the year.
Coddou and his wife were on Shark Tank and landed a $300,000 deal with Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary wanted the deal too but lost out. $300,000 for 15% was the deal.

I love the first tweet, the fact that domaingang thought this guy would want his advice, and buckley injected herself into the conversation to spam her name. Domaining is priceless. Thx.
Fat Anon says
The dude seems to believe in “supply” without “.co”.
Nether says
Tis amusing that domain investors think real business owners are concerned with their opinions.
Tom Shanahan says
How true.
Tom L Shanahan says
Did his reference to ‘”Domain bros” mean the Castello Brothers?
Raymond Hackney says
No his domain bros was addressing all domainers who doubt him and tweeted back at him that .co was a bad choice.

I wish I’d seen the Shark Tank episode where two sharks are fighting over funding a razor/razor blade company that uses the domain Supply.co for their website? Maybe I’ve been in the domaining space for too long but wouldn’t a domain like blades.com, shaving.com or closeshave.com or a name that at least had some connection to shaving make more sense? Please enlighten me about how this is a good name for this product and why these hard-nosed investors couldn’t wait to spend their $300K Thanks.
Snoopy says
No, those names don’t work well as brands and the SEO benefit in 2019 would be minimal.
Can you imagine try to sell boutique shaving gear with a brand name “Close Shave”? It sounds like a feature, not a brand.
Kevin Fink says
I’m not choosing sides, here — I actually think they’ll do just fine — but I think the debate was more around (at least, the way I saw it) whether he’d lose traffic to the .com, which is a foregone conclusion. Now, some of us argued (as I did) that if his business moniker was actually “Supply Co” then it would make more sense from a branding perspective; otherwise, he might lose his ass in traffic and customers to the .com holder.
Whether he wanted our opinions or not is another story π
Mika says
I like your take on the whole situation, Raymond. Very interesting article as I love domains & Shark Tank.
Hey Kevin, along the lines of your last sentence, if I had been in the guys shoes, running a company with good sales, high valuation & the investment of a shark, I would probably be peeved with domainers chiming in, and not because they might necessarily be wrong, but just because it’s done & dusted, decision made and it’s too late to get the .com or start negotiating for razor.com, etc… From the business owners POV, and certainly the other investors, it’s time to make $.
Kevin Fink says
Totally agree with that perspective, Mika.
Ethan says
Although Mr. Coddou could have been more mild with his response, I think .com maximalists would not cease to be scolded if they continue to make repulsive remarks.
Ethan says
I mean “…would not stop getting scolded…”
Snoopy says
You should have been a school teacher.
VR says
You should have been a bore, oh that’s right you are.
Shane Cultra says
A genuine congratulations to him and his company. I can see why he wanted to bet money so much since he had a Shark Tank investment under his belt π Now I can tell my Grandkids about being called an idiot by the Supply guy
Mike Adkinson says
Nobody listens to Shane anyways except for the low IQ domain dingbats. He should stick to selling plants.
Snoopy says
I think his opinion is valued even if I don’t get his jokes.
Tom L Shanahan says
Your grandkids will only understand if the Supply guy is still around then.
