Next to .com, i think i’d rather own a .co for a number of reasons;
1. it’s short
2. it’s concise
3. it’s more believable by the “average” business guy
I’m in the process of developing, trademarking and branding 9Time™, where i needed to register the .co because the .com was already taken.
Patrick Byrne, former CEO of Overstock was always on the cutting edge of pretty much everything, and to own O.co is really pretty cool imho. In retrospect, Overstock.com already had brand recognition, but I can see why Byrne had to give it a shot.
It appears I’m to get some backing for 9Time™, but Time will tell:)

Ha..most of them are DEAD!!

.co has seen very large declines in aftermarket sales over the last few years.
-E says
Have you checked the sales of 2019? .co does pretty well.
Snoopy says
Number of sales (source namebio)
2017 726
2018 470
2019 290 (annualizes to 364 sales)
-E says
Yes, and no.
I wouldn’t count smaller sales. Many of those are domainer-generated, so they just blur the picture. Furthermore, backorder prices for .co increased considerably last year or so, and I assume this fact alone will contribute (or contributed already) to reduced amount of backorders and sales. I may be wrong, of course.
If you look at sales above 10K, then 2018 and 2019 (to date) are pretty much even in terms of quantity. And when we raise the bar to 25K, then 2019 is clear winner. So “high ticket” sales (end user?) increased this year for sure.
2018
10K+ 28 sales
25K+ 5 sales
2019 to date
10K+ 27 sales
25K+ 7 sales
2019
Sales above
As to you stats. be mu
but the value of transactions seem to be increasing too.

Please disregard this part, forgot to delete… (Raymond, appreciate if you could remove this piece from my above comment)

.co, .io, new tlds, they are all showing almost the same downward trend. 20%+ annual declines in number of sales reported.
Have you considered that the data showing declines may actually be right?
-E says
Please don’t put new gTLDs in the mix. I’m talking about .co (and .io for that matter).
From what I observe .co, .io do well nowadays. They sell for a higher amount of money and I find it more important than the number of sales.
Like it or not (I don’t), but new gTLDS made end users aware of other extensions besides .com. And when you compare non-com extensions, .co is actually one of the best out there. My opinion only.

thanks for the post Raymond. I Love .Co

Sheila…..Co is in 5th place overall with regards to the 1,000+ extensions. The top 5 area as follows;
1. .com
2. .net
3. .org
4. io
5. .co
.co is my go to extension when .com isn’t available…..net us old school, .org is generally used for non profit, and .io really isn’t a backup for .com like .co is. I’m looking at buying/registering SwingTime.co because it’s available to hand register for a mere 11.99, and GD values SwingTime.com for $11,168 and DomainMarket.com is asking $194,888 for it….should I but it? Duh!
