Number of live websites in 2019
Martin Armstrong, published an article on the number of websites currently on the Internet. I was surprised at the drop off in 2018 but 2019 looks to be moving back to the upside. The record number of live websites was 2017 at 1.76 billion.

Nice graph. Domains and websites are still needed.

The Graphic Says:
“”Website” is defined as a unique hostname, i.e. a name which can be resolved, using a name server, into an IP Address.”
That is a service, not a web site.
For example, all Name Servers and email servers fit that definition, but are not web sites. An explicit DNS entry for http://www.thedomains.com and thedomains.com (no use of wild carding, which itself was forbidden in the original RFC) gives two “websites” when there are only one per their definition.
Just the fact that the offered number is currently ~5 times Verisign’s reported total registrations in all TLDs should make one question this graph.
