Going to start doing looks at the Non coms and see where the top 10 biggest sales in each extension are currently doing. ( Sales data courtesy of Namebio).

    business.global
casino.global and most of the sites cannot be reached.

    What a waste of money!!

Can you be sure the real money was paid or just “fake” sales?

I was typing casino and business and intuitively I typed the dot com.
    Anybody have that experience?

Interesting post. Many domain sales in all extensions are made to domain investors. In the case of newly-released extensions (and this goes back even before 2014), high-dollar sales in new extensions raises the question if those sales were made to legit third-party buyers.

Unfortunately in the domain space we do not have an independent authority which validates the legitimacy of domain sales. Publicly-traded companies produce financial statements and business commentary which stock investors use to make investing decisions – buy, sell, hold. Domain investors tend to take reported domain sales as a sign that there is demand for a particularly keyword or extension or domain type (LL, LLL, LLLL, NNN, etc). While there is a validation process for a small-time domainer to report a sale, I do not believe there is enough rigor in the process for investors to blindly rely on these reports. That is not necessarily a criticism of DNJ or Namebio or DNSal.es. They are not being paid six figures for an audit engagement where they have a staff of professionals on site for a couple weeks.

However, I believe domain investors prior to relying heavily on reported sales as a gauge of making investing decisions (buy, bid, renew, drop, sell cheap) should examine the usage of reported sales. If one’s primary purpose in holding a domain is for resale, then the usage of reported sales makes a statement about the aftermarket demand for that type of domain (one-word or LL or extension, etc). If a large portion of reported sales in a particular extension are domainer-held or do not resolve, it is a poor sign of the motivation of end users to acquire that type of domain. There are so many TLD choices now that one cannot blindly trust the registries and registrars to act as agents on our behalf. When industry-wide turn may be less than one percent annually and many end users balk at paying more than low $xxx for a domain, why would a company spend five or six figures on a domain and not create a business from it? It is a legit question but applicable to all reported domain sales – not just those in newer extensions.

I see my reply to that knucklehead at NP (https://www.namepros.com/threads/tv-reported-sales-vs-development.1132100/#post-7193153) has inspired you to create a new blog post series here.

Really wish I had time to do all TLD’s w/that guy talking $hit about dot tv w/out any comparisons at all, I had to show him the Top 10 dot com domain sales ever, and the ratio of developed to undeveloped. Just for comparisons sake since it is so easy to skew data to your favor without any comparisons at all. We see it happen all the time depending on what that person has to sell. Very shitty.

This should be an awesome new series of blog posts.
    Thanks!

I AM ONLY REGISTERING EXPIRED “5 LETTER NICE WORDS” WHICH CAN BECOME BRAND NAME IN .COM ONLY. EVERYTHING ELSE IS WAIST OF TIME & MONEY. they want people to pay $10 per year in hope that they will sell names. all new extentions are going to go bankrupt.

THERE ARE ENOUGH NAMES IN .COM & OTHER COUNTRY EXTS AS “BRAND/COMPANY NAMES”

WE ARE HOLDING (FOR OVER 20 YEARS) GENERIC ONE WORD DOMAIN NAMES ( 50+ ) LIKE SHOP, TRADE, GIFT, FOOD, ESTATE, REALESTATE FOR ( .COM.PK & .PK ) FOR PAKISTAN. WE HAVE NOT SOLD A SINGLE NAME YET. PEOPLE HAVE $BILLIONS IN PAKISTAN, BUT THEY WILL NOT INVEST IN DOMAINS.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the .pk country code. I know that the german .de, the british .uk and also some other European country codes have a well established secondary market with regular sales. .pk might not be ripe yet because people have other more serious problems or they directly go to .com. But for sure no one needs any more new gTLD’s!
