Now that there has been a bit of time to digest the sales data from the NamesCon live auction, what names did you think were a bargain and which did you think the buyer overpaid?
I think Stop.com was probably the best buy along with SmartDrugs.com. I think stop is very versatile and smart drugs is the future. ShoeRack.com for $6,000 is a good buy imo.
I think the seller did really well to get $70,000 for MyWebsite.com.

Snoopy says
Not sure there is many good deals there, stop.com sounds a million dollars but it is a very negative, what business is really going to use this term? 90% of the time they’ll move onto something else which is why it went for $110k in my view and not the 500k and similar “not negative sounding” name might get..
Solvent.com sounds decent. SmartDrugs.com is going to date and is basically a tech term. Who are the obvious endusers and why would it be called “smart drugs” in 20 years?
Vito says
I think Stop is the best possible term for anything that is negative that you would like to put a stop to…
negativity, bullying, smoking, addictions, racism, sexual violence, discrimination, etc.
Mark Thorpe says
Exactly!
Mitch says
Add robocalls to that list.
Todd says
For anything negative I would much rather have the .org. I would even say that the .org is worth more in this case.
Snoopy says
The .org is never worth more, a charity will not pay hundreds of thousands for this name.
If the .org were auctioned at the same venue it would get a couple of thousand max, maybe not even $1,000.
VR says
I like smartdrugs.com, insurance.us. and xga.com the best overall.
I don’t get chatsites.com way too expensive.
Vito says
These are my 5 picks for the best deals in exactly this order.
DomainNames dot com @370k
Stop dot com @110k
Insurance dot us @7k
Glucose dot org @4k
Escort dot io @$500
If I had to pick one that looks a bit high it would be this one
MyWebsite dot com @70k
Bulldog says
Great buys:
Xga.com
NP.net
Shoerack.com
Bad buys
Abomination.com Who the fuck is building on that?
DomainNames.com call me crazy but who wants an EMD in 2019
Sportswear.co Reg fee domain name
mike says
Frank Schilling does lol
Mark Thorpe says
Why would Frank want DomainNames.com anyway? It’s not a FM Radio new gTLD, it’s an AM Radio .COM domain! Lol
Mike says
Because he bought it for what he probably sells 5-6 random 4L.com’s for
Mike says
.com is like XM RADIO now, you will never go back to FM again once the dust settles.
Mike says
To your point DomainNames.Link is still available
Mark Thorpe says
Of course DomainNames.link is Shill available, – $370k value.
NJ says
Hey cool post, I dig insurance.us huuuuuuuuuuuge industry.
Xga.com fantastic name for 20k
stop.com fantastic for only $110k
I don’t like the price on mywebsite or cannabiscompany.
Bruce tedeschi says
Selling insurance.us for $7,000 was dumb. WBA’s a deal that buyer got.
Mike says
A room full of domain pros, a online room full of domain pros. Domain has been shopped around for a few months now, so why did the bidding stop, it wasn’t like stupid money wasn’t being thrown around CannabisCompany.com for $12K lol
Snoopy says
Give it a couple more years and it will be selling for $3,000. No demand for domains like this beyond domainers, growing supply of similar names.
Tony says
All the non .com’s were probably a waste of money.
Most of the .com’s were fair deals.
I personally went $200 above my max and got caught up in the bidding so I’m not proud of that.
Domainnames.com was greatly overvalued. By comparison, what would domain/s.com go for? $5 million? $10 million?
Dieticians is a misspelling of dietitians. Look it up. I would’ve paid $4K for the real thing.
BullS says
All the non .com’s were probably a waste of money.———–totally agree
All the non .com’s ARE a waste of money.!! period
Most of them will be resold the next namescon auction.
Mike says
Can the Wine.Club guy get a refund? Might even take it in topcoins at this point.
Ron says
They must have been desperate and really hurting for money. Top names went for really cheap prices. I bet Rick Schwartz would have gotten 2 million dollars for STOP.COM
Anunt says
DomainNames.com is the best buy
This can turn into a multi-million dollar business very easily.
Mike says
If Web.com sat on DomainNames.com for so many years, and decided to auction it off so it could be bought by the compeition, Uniregistry which is already in the business, what more can someone do with it other than capture the traffic leads it brings. It is a perfect domain for Uniregistry which has millions of domains under their belt for sale. Chump change for them given some of the sales they recently closed.
Snoopy says
cannabiscompany.com 12000
Probably the worst deal.
Mark Thorpe says
Agreed, Stop.com was one of, if not, the best buy. Have to think outside of the box and domain bubble!
John says
1. Huge surprising *steals* of the decade:
Insurance.us
SmartDrugs.com
2. Good deal:
DomainNames.com
3. Abomination:
The Estibot “appraisal” figure having to appear with each listing to poison the mind of the real world market, while most people take it silently as if the emperor is not walking around naked at their own expense.
Pierre Barnard says
To be honest, for me, the “live” auction was disappointing.
Jerry says
ol.com way too high LL.com still need come down to 200K ranges again. big over pay there.
one words also trading very high prices never come down yet.
best buy was LLL.com have come down allot of reseller prices over past 2 years:
xga.com
Snoopy says
lll.com may come down a lot more yet, it has been pushed by Chinese speculation, not enduser demand.
Bar says
I scored medschools .com for $1200 and I don’t feel bad about. It’s not a steal by any means, and worst case scenario something we could build out.
Aamir says
It will be interesting to see how many domain names are bought by *end users* for real development. Sometimes, end users bought as a defensive tactic to stop competitors from using it.
jose says
DAX.com sold for $500k and almost a year later still points to a parking page. that’s the beauty of this market. it’s full of crazy sh*t
Tim davids says
Insurance.us was my pick.
I knew an agent once that sold a prepaid life insurance policy to a guy for a $8000 commission. Just one transaction.
John says
That one is one of the steals of the decade. I sure wish I was paying attention more closely.
Tony says
Huge keyword. Useless extension. Won’t get any type in traffic. Won’t help get ranked on search engines. Most likely future buyers will be other domainers thinking they can resell for higher which is hit or miss with 1000 gtld to choose from.
Snoopy says
Agree, reminds me a lot of flowers.mobi. Great keyword, terrible extension.
When something sells low at auction the usual reason is because it is a bad domain and it will likely sell for lower next time. It is likely to come back to auction because the new buyers won’t get enduser leads just like the last owner. No better than insurance.xyz, insurance.onl, insurance.wtf and a thousand others.
John says
You guys are so wrong, lol. Or do you already know that? 😉
