I have to be honest since Kevin Fink left Flippa, I have not spent a ton of time there, looking at a domain auction that stood out once in awhile.
I had a friend who wanted to list a business for sale and told me he wanted to use Flippa.
While on the site checking out the price for business listings, I noticed a couple days ago Flippa changed their pricing.
It will now cost $25 to list a domain name for sale, plus a 10% success fee. For a business that has been around for more than 6 months it looks like the new price is $200 plus the success fee.
Flippa also looks to be adding a new ID verification system starting this month.
Over the last few months we’ve been working on several ways to improve our seller and buyer experience. This has included the introduction of Flippa Escrow, high value business sales, dedicated account management for both sellers and buyers and the introduction of a broker program. Moving forward, we’ll also be investing for efficiency and to protect the integrity of the marketplace. This will include:
- ID verification to assure buyers and sellers
- Seller declarations to pre-qualify business inclusions
- In-platform buyer / seller messaging services
- An easy to use profile creator
And today, we are announcing new pricing plans designed to better suit our three core services. The new plans take effect effective immediately – Monday 5th November 2018 and are as follows:
- Asset Sales including the sale of a domain, app or starter site, i.e. something not generating any revenue, can be sold for a listing fee of $25 and success fee of 10%.
- Self Service Business Sales is best suited to profitable businesses with a minimum six month trading history. Sell for a listing fee of $200 and a success fee of 10%.
- Broker Supported Business Sales will match you with a specialist broker. Best for those with annual profits of 200k+. Sell for a listing fee of $200 and a success fee of 15%.
The 10% success fee on Asset Sales and Self Service Business Sales is a reduction. This was previously 15% for Credit Card payments and 12% when using Flippa’s escrow service. Flippa still absorbs the escrow transaction cost.
Note: Pricing and fees are in USD. Your sell price should always be in USD.

I had an account for years with Flippa, trying to auction of domain names. The results were always abysmal at best. Auctions without reserve usually attracted only single digit bids, and any set minimum bids did not attract more than one or two bidders or none at all. I can do without Flippa and closed my account.

TRUE. I HAVE NOT SOLD ANY DOMAIN NAME SINCE 1998 ON FLIPPA OR SEDO. LAST NAME I SOLD WAS INDONESIAONLINE.COM MYSELF FOR $100,000 IN 1998. IT LOOKS LIKE ALL SETUP & IT STINKS. RICH & CONNECTED PEOPLE ARE BUYING & SELLING NAMES ON FAKE ACCOUNTS IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE PRICES OF ALL NEW EXTENTIONS SO PEOPLE KEEP REGISTERING NAMES. BUT WE DONT HAVE TO GIVE UP EITHER. WE HAVE TO REGISTER 2-5 LETTER GOOD MEMORABLE NAMES ON ALL NEW EXTENTIONS. CUS IT’S GAME FOR THEM & WE HAVE TO PLAY TOO.

So now you are going to pay $25.00 to list a 75.00 domain or less..I hardly think so, what this will do will eliminate many sellers who are listing crap domains for $1 hoping to sell them ??? Thus eliminating Flippa revenue on the majority of those sellers.. Would not be worth it to me unless the domain was a guarantee sale at a certain level. I will not use Flippa in this case. Paying $25.00 + Fee .. No thanks

That’s good news. What I like about Flippa is they give you all the space you want to describe the value of the domain you’re selling, plus you’re not forced to have the Estibot value, which is so inaccurate so much of the time, shown.

$9 to $25? Heck no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too high for asset/business sales IMO.
More like 5%-7.5% at the absolute highest would be a fair figure.

This just made Flippa even more useless than it already was.
Dan says
$9 was already a waste LOL.. no thanks Rippa!

I forgot that they even existed.

The domain name listing fees $ 25 is really horrible. The major marketplaces like Sedo, Afternic etc charge nothing for listing. But Flippa just going on increasing the listing fee, $ 5,, $ 9 and now $ 25.
The message they want to convey is crystal clear, look we do not entertain junks anymore, if your domain name is worth in hundreds of dollars, come to us, otherwise get lost.

I was never a fan of Flippa’s pricing structure, but at the very least I thought there was value in their premium featured listings. WRONG! After paying $65 for my domain to be featured, it was only featured for a couple of days. Now it is not only no longer appearing in their featured domain section, but it is buried under many other domains which is what I trying to avoid in the first place. This means less views, less watchers, less bids, and of course this will all lead to my domain selling for far less than what it is worth. It doesn’t matter how valuable the domain is, nobody can easily bid on what they have to dig to find. Very disappointed here.

I think this is a pretty fair cost structure (for small businesses and personal projects where assets have some real “value”), at least more simple. I have found this online tool feeprofitcalc.com/Flippa, that is free and easy to use, to calculate all fees and costs (in advance) when listing an asset on Flippa.
