Uniregistry is rolling out Uniregistry Perks, a subscription based service that will determine what you pay for domain names.
Uniregistry Domain Perks
Get instant access to perks on domain names and services.
Choose your plan and enjoy instant savings on registrations, renewals or transfers.
You plug in if you own x number of domains to find out how much you will pay monthly for these “perks”
There is a thread on Namepros where some say they have received an email and others were not emailed.
TonyK2000 gave his take:
Must be a marketing experiment. It is somewhat natural to play with pricing models… So why not to try? Similar to an experiment with Uni (as a registry) announcing price increase on some new strings (.guitars, .sexy etc), but they lost GoDaddy and I think had some staff changes as the result.
Very risky however. Indeed, who are their customers? A lot domainers will leave, as there are comparable alternatives. Some may stay, and will pay asking monthly membership fee (such as those who are using the sales platform with instant transfer). Endusers? No enduser will pay membership fee and enduser prices are already high.
Platform advantages? With all due respect, the platform is still buggy. Unfortunately. I reported various bugs, nobody bothered to fix them. Basic functionality works (not always), advanced functionality may or may not work. An easy example – tasks in “task manager” may be stalled forever.
A real advantage is a safe Cayman jurisdiction. No questions here. A limited number of domains should be better “located” as far from U.S. as possible. If not on registry level (no .com) – then on registrar level. Such as something referring to “Cuba travel” or the like. Uniregistry customers with such domains will also look for alternatives now, and will find other serious non-U.S. based registrars (Hover/Tucows, EasyDNS, Internet.bs – just to name a few).
Good luck to Uni though.
Others have expressed their frustration and will most likely be transferring out. Others believe they will not get the email that their pricing will be going up.
Some scoffed at this line from the correspondence from Uniregistry.
We’re adjusting our pricing on October 31st.
Uniregistry is adjusting domain prices to more accurately reflect the value of our platform.
Will you be leaving Uniregistry if affected?
VR says
what are they Amazon now, with their own version of Prime?
Thomas says
Godaddy does it with domain discount club, but that is a different beast, godaddy spends tens of millions on advertising on prime media. The end users go to godaddy, and if you have a proper bin you get that sold email.
Uniregistry is just not there yet to pull these kind of acts on their loyal clients.
Thomas says
I just ran the Uniregistry calculator, so the numbers are padded with the savings.
The actual ELITE program is currently the same prices I am paying now. They just want $49 a month to offer me the same pricing. The calculator calculation is a farce. They tend to forget I made them over $35K last year in commissions for their brokers, as well as access to thousands of solid leads for their data collection. As well they have access to all my sold domain leads also with prices.
I am making arrangements to move my names out.
danno says
If you made them 35k in commissions then you made 350k in sales and are leaving over 590 bucks. Is my math right?
Richard says
Commission is 15% so he made roughly $240k in sales.

It looks like they have been informing people in stages over the past month.
If you have up to 750 domains, you will be charged $22/month ($264 per year) for the privilege of maintaining (if you’re lucky) your existing discount structure.
On the other hand, if you have more like 50,000 domains, then you can add an extra zero on the end of that subscription price for the exact same benefits that someone with 750 domains receives at a far cheaper subscription price point.
Add to that…
Donuts is changing the price structure for .place, looks like they are getting cheaper (half?) With a geo requirement.
All existing registrations at current standard are relabelled as premium domains at the current price point.
For uniregistry, because standard .place are now premium, you no longer pay a discounted price, but their full standard.
Nor can you use top coin to obtain a discounted price.
With the new subscription at Elite, you will be able to obtain a 10% discount on premium names.
So based on an approx. $8 price hike using .place as an example, you may be lucky to get a $3 discount, paying $5 more than you were previously.
And it looks like top coin is only useable on 4 or so extensions, so you will either see top coin dropped entirely…
…or it will be useable to counter the extra increase (maybe)
Either way, you will still be paying more than you currently are.
…
Will I be moving….
…I am currently looking into alternative options.
Thomas says
Epik is offering $6.xx transfer ins for .com, topped up with 5% bonus if you prefund your account, you are down to about $6, buys you a year.
Jane Doe says
Appreciate the heads up.
Sadly I’m a gtld peep with only a handful of .coms, but all options are good
Thomas says
Namesilo has better pricing on gtld’s, something funny is namesilo is cheaper than uniregistry for uniregistry’s own extensions go figure.
Uniregistry brokers were spamming, and calling whois contacts like crazy trying to get their domains at their new registry, only to pull this stunt, epic sick.

lol wut
Jane Doe says
Just noticed that a premium GTLD that they were offering for $220 is now listed as $240
So if you are on Elite, then you might get 10% off taking it down to $216
So you will be better off by $4
However, you will need 66 such savings before you cover the cost of the elite subscription, and more than that if your domains are cheaper.
Mu El says
I am leaving the f*** out, I am already having a discount right now, they just want the $49/Month for it now. Godaddy discount club is cheaper now.
Domains Domains says
Maybe it’s time to consider Google Domains. Not willing to pay for discounts.
What was the point of associating loyalty with uni topcoins when you do this ?
It does not sound good but if one needs to pay for discounts after accumulating lots
of uni topcoins then one might as well transfer to a safer place.

I think Cloudflare could become a good alternative, at least for .com Domains. They are currently rolling out Cloudflare Registrar (https://blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-registrar/) offering .com registrations for just $8.03, according to them this is the pure registration price (Registry + ICANN Fee). Some of the new TLDs are also supported: https://www.cloudflare.com/tld-policies/
