Peoople is a friend & influencer recommendation based app that enables its users to discover restaurants, books, movies and more. They just closed their first round of funding for 500,000 Euros.
They are using Peoople.co
The name is a bit clunky, even with the trend of spelling brandables with an extra letter like Smiile.com or Fiverr.com. I am not sure that the double o works. Plus Time Inc, owns Peoople.com as a defensive registration for their People magazine. So the .co provides more confusion.
The .app was registered was actually registered last week, under privacy but not regged where the .co is registered so it might be someone squatting on the name.
On top of all this PeoopleApp.com is available to register. In my opinion that would have been the best option if they were determined to stick with Peoople. I think with the funding coming in we might see a name change.
One other note, the company is based out of Spain, maybe peoople is not so bad in their country.

Is this the worst domain name of all time?
doob says
if not it’s certainly a serious contender. what is wrong with people?
Data Glasses says
Don’t you mean what’s wrong with ……peoople
Mace says
Absolutely horrendous domain!!!
Looks like it’s pronounced “Pee-oople” , not “People”.
A screwed-up domain on a .co ?!?! Straight-up trash !!!
Even the .com is total SH*T !!!
How do you get “people” out of “peoople ?
“Peeple” would have been A LOT better.

wow. You know when you watch a movie, and it’s so bad … that you actually enjoy the movie, and it strangely becomes a classic? I wonder is domain peoople.co like that .. so bad, it’s actually good?
Data Glasses says
No
Mace says
No, Peoople.co definitely will not become a Cult Classic!
No, Peoople.com will NOT be the “Plan 9 From Outer Space” (Google it) of domain names.
It’s destined for the Garbage Bin, soon to be forgotten, just like all refuse.

.Co’s are a disaster. A friend who I was repping for owned a realty .com, a generic name of a company operating in NYC who got funded. Instead of buying the .com from us, they launched under a .co. We got 50% of their internal emails, including the most private stuff! We didn’t feel good about it, and forwarded their emails while trying to talk some sense into them. Eventually they bought the name from us for a decent amount, but it taught me never to launch under a .co, no matter what. In some mail programs the .co gets auto-completed to .com. No thanks.

I’d say all the new gTLDs suffer from the same issue. The general public doesn’t know about the new gTLDs and probably can’t even differentiate between the world wide web and the Internet. They probably don’t know Google Chrome / Firefox could be used in place of IE until their teenage children told them. I’ve seen people who didn’t know their Samsung phones ran Android and iPhones ran a completely different OS.
My point is – the vast majority of the world is not tech savvy. It’s foolish to expect them to know it’s example.app instead of example.app.com or exampleapp.com. We need to dumb things down for the general population and stick to what they know.
Mace says
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think .CO is garbage (I own EthereumCash.co & EtherCash.co) I just think brandable, odd-splelled .Co’s are worthless.

This name is the equivalent of your office address being your parents garage. It’s ok for starting out but it’s time to upgrade.

Clunky is being so nice. 🙂 Reflecting, I have a couple of those types .. Wesstern.com and Peaar.com, although nobody is beating down my door for those. Just thought I would SLIP those in! heh .. Not only is this domain clunky it makes me mad! You don’t want your company name to make people mad.
