Jeff Sass started out and stressed that the new gtlds are words with actual meaning and this could play apart in helping marketers and possibly SEO. (Google has stated there is no SEO benefit).

As I know in SEO, keywords in url do counts as website keywords. Even not have to be from domain name, but keyword in domains also counted in keyword density tools. You can test in SEO Centro. The keywords in url are higher than website contents, at least same important as keywords in navigation menus.
