Sedo released their weekly sales and Arto.com was the top sale at 12,000 Euros. This was a week where a lot of average and maybe to some people, below average names sold.
The buy of the week in my opinion was TheBahamas.com for $2,999.
Another week where just a few “other” gtlds sold. Running.shop did sell for 2,500 Euros.

I sold AlertGo.com it’s only the second name I’ve ever sold at Sedo, I should probably list everything there with BIN prices.
ben pedri says
It looks like a great sale ,but this domain is going to be resold for 50k
Ikehook says
I paid 8$ so I figure it’s a win win for everyone.

THEbahamas.com what a steal at 3 grand this phrase is more correct or just as bahamas when it comes to tourism Does anyone remember the commercial and the jingle. :::””” the. Bahamas. “” im offering the buyer a 25 % profit right now
John says
“Arto” may be short, but it’s garbage, especially at that price. Not horrible useless garbage, but garbage for the money. Google doesn’t even detect a language for it, not even as a substitute for “art.”
“TheBahamas” on the other hand, is a huge steal and the top of mind phrase. “Bahamas” by itself is even downright “awkward.” I flew to “the Bahamas” years ago, but I never traveled to “Bahamas.”
Why do things like this happen?
Because selfish, shortsighted, greedy people never shut up pontificating and brainwashing others that it’s all about “short, short, short” rather than acknowledge the value of good longer domains the way people readily used to. Rather than allow a bigger pie for everyone including themselves, they would rather stifle the industry with “either/or” instead of “both/and” and thereby not only leave enormous cumulative sums of money on the table they could have themselves but also ruin it for everyone else. That example is just another wake up call.
ben pedri says
Hey john , do you know what arto is ,its a time machine ,where you can see the future or read postings about domains and travel back in time about an hour ,and post them before the guy that thought of it posted his . something like bahamas , so i would say arto is not too bad.
John says
And being a troll accomplishes what for you exactly?
John says
Didn’t I also say it was not too bad also, Ben? That’s what “not horrible useless garbage” means. And that’s what it is compared to “thebahamas” unless you pull off a huge branding feat.
Michael says
I disagree that arto dot com is garbage. Arto is a male name in several countries, and the domain still receives xxx visitors daily because it used to be associated with a leading Nordic online community.
I think it is a very good brandable, not only for an art site, but for many other purposes. Others seem to agree:
http://dngeek.com/2016/12/brandable-domain-name-sales-week-50-arto-com-cloudo-com-healthhero-com/
I do admit it is quite a high reseller price to pay. But I have already sold it on, so I am not complaining…
Brian Luedke MSN RN says
My name is Brian Luedke MSN RN and yes I too agree that TheBahamas.com was the sale of the week, at least from my perspective. I bought the name a few days ago and already I have a little mini site there. I will be going to the Bahamas in January for an eight day initial mission to gather content in the form of video, drone video, photos, interviews, thousands of pictures, etc. I have always been flirting with great success: Sénégal.com (with the accents), Congo-Brazzaville.com, Haïti.com (with the tréma), AfriqueCentrale.com, etc. but this is definitely a whole new ballgame. This is a dream come-true, really. Since circa 1999 I have been imagining what I will/would do with the short form of a country name. “The Bahamas” is the short form, and yes according to the constitution of The Bahamas the “the” is required. It is the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, not the Republic of Bahamas. It was registered in May 1995, five months before sex.com. Who would want Angeles.com when you can get LosAngeles.com? I agree with the other posters that the discredited myth that “the”names must be terriblemight be a part of my great success this week, I’m not sure.
ben pedri says
Brian how high would you have paid for this im curious as hell
Brian Luedke MSN RN says
Ben, I am really lucky that is was ridiculously underpriced, because I don’t have a lot of loose cash right now. However, I think the domain is easily 50K or 100K without being developed, and several million when properly developed and exploited. Remember that MyrtleBeach.com, (which is really an inferior name with inferior potential long-term, all things being equal), sold for 4.5 million dollars. Of course TheBahamas.com was improperly managed until now, ever since its registration in 1995, so all things are not equal… yet.
ben pedri says
Brian you mentioned 3 or 5 months b4 sex.com the real case for you is registered 3 years b4. Bahamas.com so you basically own this brand
Brian Luedke MSN RN says
Exactly! I noticed that, too! It was years before Bahamas.com was taken. And it makes sense, that name is like using Angeles.com for a site about Los Angeles, still a great domain but not your first choice.
John says
Congrats!

Brian Luedke MSN RN says
Thank you for sharing! I will be there in three weeks! Can’t wait!
patrick says
With voice search I see a future for long tail generics.
John says
I was also going to mention something about that stupid asinine industry phrase “long tail” that appeared sometime in recent years too but I edited that out before I posted. Love to know who came up with that. I guess “arto” must be more valuable than “newyorkrealestate.”
Meyer says
From Sedo a few minutes ago –
“we will be reporting two weeks’ worth of sales on January 3. Please note, there will not be a weekly sales list sent next week.”
JohnD says
InsiderPicks.com and TheBahamas.com are nice ones, the rest mostly garbage.
ben pedri says
I agree john
