Snapchat has rebranded to Snap, Inc.
It appears the domain name Snap.com was acquired back in June 2016 when the domain moved over to the corporate domain registrar and brand protection company MarkMonitor.com
Snapchat’s Twitter handle has changed to @Snap as well.
Snap also announced a new product called Spectacles which are a set of $130 sunglasses that sport an integrated video camera with a 115-degree lens.
The company seemed to acquire the domain name Spectacles.com back in May 2016 when as the domain moved over to the corporate domain registrar and brand protection company MarkMonitor.com
According to a blog post the company explained it’s rebranding:
“Today we are changing the name of our company to Snap Inc.
It has been five years since Bobby and I started working on Picaboo, the little app that became Snapchat – and we’ve been so lucky to build an incredible team that has continued to expand upon Snapchat and create products like Stories, Memories, Lenses, and so much more!
When we were just getting started it made sense to name our company Snapchat Inc., because Snapchat was our only product! Now that we are developing other products, like Spectacles, we need a name that goes beyond just one product – but doesn’t lose the familiarity and fun of our team and brand.
We decided to drop the “chat” and go with Snap Inc!
Changing our name also has another benefit: when you search for our products it will be easier to find relevant product information rather than boring company information or financial analysis. You can search Snapchat or Spectacles for the fun stuff and leave Snap Inc. for the Wall Street crowd 🙂
We hope that this change will improve your experience with Snapchat and Spectacles, and create a structure that allows us to continue making great new products for you and your friends!””
According to a blog post the company explained Spectacles:
“We’ve been working for the past few years to develop a totally new type of camera. We call it Spectacles!
Imagine one of your favorite memories. What if you could go back and see that memory the way you experienced it? That’s why we built Spectacles.
Spectacles are sunglasses with an integrated video camera that makes it easy to create Memories.
We’ve created one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world, capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge, and we integrated it seamlessly into a fun pair of sunglasses – available in 3 different colors!
Spectacles connect directly to Snapchat via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and transfer your Memories directly into the app in our brand new circular video format.
Circular video plays full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view. We can’t wait for you to see it!
Spectacles will be available soon.
Happy Snapping!
Team Snap”

Of course the user base cannot not spell and are focused on pictures. It has to be dumbed down. All anyone is interested in is their 150 million users as a comp to FB. They better start wooing the wall street crowd with a 19 billion dollar evaluation for snap that snapchat cannot and will not be able to support, a la twitter. who has now fallen out of favor and instagram has passed in daily users.
One style of sunglasses? I cannot see this going over with a selfie teenage crowd?

Also interesting is the fact this company /app whatever needs a domain name period. As I have stated apps are junk you cannot search for them, they have no url. Only 12-15 are displayed on the screen And 50% of smartphones users never downloaded a new app in the last 3 months. 95% of these apps are junk. You need a URL..aka domain name and this clearly shows this is very relevant with apps, and social media sites. You cannot afford to loose your identity. ten yrs after the launch of fb snap is the clearest competitor and this app needs a domain name. Let every single social media expert out there and I read almost every one…..take note . a domain name is of paramount value! Got It?

In today’s Digital Economy, every aspiring International Company, Product or Service needs an International Internet Address (i.e., .com Domain Name) in order to gain Maximum International Exposure, remain Competitive and potentially Dominate its Industry among its Clients, Customers, Peers and Investors.
Ideally, a company wants to get the right Domain Name from the start (short, catchy, relevant and/or exact match). This, not only, helps it Launch with Maximum Market Exposure but can also help it avoid a Difficult and Costly Re-Branding if and when a company Outgrows its sub-par domain.

Wasn’t Snap.com a Yahoo-like directory or SE back in the mid 90’s, or something like that, maybe around ’94 to ’96?

Interesting story.
There were 3 founders — all undergrads at Stanford. They launched the app and paid for the name/url peekaboo.com — at its peak, it had 1500 downloads , so it looked like a failure.
One of the founders, who filed the patent for ephemeral messaging, left the company for more “stable employment” in North Carolina.
The other 2 founders decided to give it another shot and called it snapchat.com (a URL they bought). Still no traction, until the teen-aged daughter of one of the investors showed it to her high school friends in Santa Barbara. Then it went viral.
FB tried to acquire Snapchat. The former founder sued Snapchat. (similar to Facebook, although the CEO wanted to settle with him and apparently he received a large settlement (over $100 million) for his 2 years of work.
Snapchat is rebranding to Snap as it most likely will be moving into multiple areas (news, TV, movies, games, wearables, fitness, email, messaging and more) — in fact, I believe we will see “Snap” position itself as the “Line” of the USA — Line is the all-everything app that is the most powerful app in Asia
The greatest threat to Facebook right now: Line and Snap
The beneficiary: Twitter, which I predict Facebook will acquire to put in its arsenal to compete against Snap. Periscope, which twitter owns, is a valuable asset, albeit underutilized by Twitter.

They didn’t go for snap.photo, or snap.photography, or snap.photos, or snap.camera, or snap.pic, or snap.pics? Haha, I’m just kidding; those are all crud.

As a premier Equity group based in New York,
Snap Inc. is very much the 21st century (2017) Fraud.com like the Dot Com era (1996) in out out.
Snap is midern day Photo Shop Instantly. It does all these contortions, at best are rude, nit sensiediqueete and are invasive type of Intellegence. Absolutely, no substanability, just excessive hype – and traffic is driven by Corporations, Advertising Groups that but cheap space for clients (obviously the Tweens, Teens and core Punk age transient visitors. Transient is the word, because this traffic is here today – Gone Tomorriw unfortunally.
The Investors are simply unsophisticated, hedging in recent IPO (s) Up then boom. Today, American GRÈED is the only definition of IPO.
Speculation, Shorts, Calls, Derivatives are for only educated, and then qualifications vary, Bloomberg, Goldman Sachs, Deutch Whoever after all have lost, I know I worked in this space for thirty years globally.
At best prediction Summer 2017 Snap will trade below its IPO offering $17.00 Shack will be doomed on poor marketing, real estate selections and the number 1 issue Value assumption, App failure, and will trade at below $ 16.00 Summer 2017.
Grèed creates attractions, knowledge and numbers result in realistic valuations not driven by false hype.
Market Cap for instance Snap will be likely $2B.

SEC and Investors will soon be informed that the offering and underwriters are subject to investigation. Why, simply indicating that brand is a company, with Camera values. Wrong, It is a devise used on I Phones not a camera to create illusions, not a reality point and shot concept as a Nikon, Cannon or in its real day Kodak.
Fraud and then some, The Wirld still doesn’t understand what you read in the Internet or see on Televion mostly is fake News. Fake, Fraudulent leads to losses and substantial.
