Can someone explain to me how it is okay to charge $2,000 to 1,200 trademark holders for early access but charging $2,000 for a .com so they can protect their brand is considered cyber squatting?
Michael Berkens says
The ACPA federal law passed in 1999 covered someone who registers a of domain names and then seeks to sell it to the trademark holder at any amount over registration price.
Registries are not registering domains then selling them for more than registration prices; what they are doing is allow trademark holders first shot to register the domain name for the registration fee the domain carries which of course varies domain to domain.
I know your not going to love that answer but that is the case.
