The domain name ClintonKaine.com which was for sale for $90,000 a few weeks ago just sold for $15,000.
The owner of the domain Jeremy P. Green confirmed the selling price to us and told TheDomains.com that “The Clinton campaign wasn’t interested in spending any significant money on it, they offered me a ludicrous $2,000 so I let a Flippa.com broker named Devoir Funches take care of everything for me.”
“The buyer, as it turns out, works for Giles-Parscale, a web marketing company that works for the Trump campaign.”
Actually I think that is a reasonable price for a very time sensitive and not shocked at all that the opposing candidate would spend more than the candidates to buy the domain. Hillary who with Bill Clinton is reportedly worth over hundred of million to offer only $2K, well that speaks for itself
The domain name is not resolving as of publication but I think we will see an interesting use for it shortly.
We did point out some potential political domains about a month ago.

Pretty good money for something that will be worthless in 85 days.

Good buy $15k is nothing to either camp. Short use and slight edges can make the difference for the next 4 years. Apparently in her eyes the next 4 years is locked up for Hilary so she offered $2k.
They should play Clinton Cash on that site over and over until people realize while one guy may be goofy the other (woman) is crooked.

“Kaine” is difficult to spell. If someone relies on TV news and reads little, it will probably end up “Cane” or “Kane” or “Cain”, which are all more customary spellings.
Considering that the #1 predictor for Trump voters is lack of a college education, I’m guessing this might be an issue. People who didn’t go to college are less likely to be avid readers, all things considered.
Nothing against people who didn’t go to college. I worked alongside plenty of enlisted Navy nukes who were twice as smart as me. I’m just saying that the typos matter in this case.
raj says
Peterson, the vast majority of Blacks and Latinos will be voting for Clinton. Yet there is a enormous education gap along racial lines when you compare this group to whites. Simply saying that the Clinton voters are educated while Trump voters aren’t, is doing a disservice to the very groups that need change the most.
I would guess ClintonKaine.com will get far more than 15k of media coverage if it fell into an opponent’s hands vs a supporter. That is really what they are shooting for in my opinion.
Joseph Peterson says
@raj,
How am I doing anybody a disservice bypointing to a widely reported bit of quantifiable data? According to The Atlantic, “the single best predictor of Trump support in the GOP primary is the absence of a college degree.” So the facts bear me out.
What you’re saying I said – “that the Clinton voters are educated while Trump voters aren’t” – ISN’T what I said. There are people in both groups who haven’t gone to college or haven’t finished high school. Nevertheless, knowing that a randomly selected person didn’t get much formal education is the one detail that most strongly implies he’s a trump supporter.
Put it this way: If you’re playing a game of “Guess Who” in order to guess how someone will vote and you can only ask 1 question about the person, then the #1 question you should ask – the one that gives you the best odds of guessing correctly – would be asking about education.
John Berryhill says

Because I’ve heard people say all your data is rigged, and that you use Arabic numerals. Some people say you’ve been using Al’Gebra. I don’t know, people. I have other data, from really smart people. It’s huge beautiful data, and you’ll love it, believe me.

Just to be clear, you are asserting the typical Trump voter is “poorly educated” vs the Clinton voter? If you bought the the ClintonKaine.com domain name, wouldn’t you want to reach those people specifically who are college educated and therefore less likely to misspell the domain name. Because as you said, the number one predictor of a Trump voter is that they are poorly educated (unlike yourself.) Why go after that population? But apparently, IQ is not something you can teach.
Joseph Peterson says
@Raj,
What I’m asserting is two-fold:
1. Trump supporters are more likely to lack a high school diploma / college degree than voters who backed other Republican candidates.
2. Lack of a high school diploma / college degree among Republican voters is the 1 characteristic that predicts most clearly that they’ll support Donald Trump.
That’s what statisticians have determined:
“The single best predictor of Trump support in the GOP primary is the absence of a college degree.”
You ask, “[W]ouldn’t you want to reach those people specifically who are college educated and therefore less likely to misspell the domain name?” Honestly, I don’t pretend to know what the buyer of ClintonKaine.com wants to do with it. We’ll see, I suppose.
But I think it’s natural for a candidate to address his own support base. Spelling ClintonKaine.com would be problematic for most people, regardless of party affiliation. As a group, Trump supporters undoubtedly read less than non-supporters within the GOP, owing to the demonstrable gap in their education levels. Watching Fox News on TV won’t tell someone how to spell “Kaine”; so the people who are searching for “Clinton Kaine” online will skew strongly toward people who read more … and therefore Trump non-supporters.
I’m not referring to Democrats here. No, I’m talking about Republicans who read conservative magazines like “The Christian Science Monitor” or “The Weekly Standard”, which ran with this headline on July 22:
“Donald Trump Is Crazy, and So Is the GOP for Embracing Him”
Honestly, I’m not sure how the Trump campaign can use ClintonKaine.com effectively. I suppose they could count on some Republicans who’ve disowned Trump or conservatives who’ve denounced the man to stumble across the site and read something critical of Clinton, thereby winning them over to Trump as the lesser of 2 evils. But among this more literate group – the tiny minority of Americans who read enough about politics to know how to spell “Kaine” – I think opinions are already based on careful analysis. They’re unlikely to be persuaded.
@Raj,
I know you want to bait me and imply that I’m an elitist. Nobody needs a diploma to value other people – muslims, latinos, and the downtrodden white working class here in the USA. I have far more respect for the college dropouts who taught me how to be an enlisted sailor (before I had a college degree) than I do for a malignant narcissist billionaire, born rich and out of touch; who mocks cripples, tortured POWs, and the mothers of fallen soldiers; who calls the Mexican immigrants I went to elementary school with “murderers and rapists”; who’d violate the constitution by instituting a religious test for citizenship; who boasts that he’ll punish the free press that has criticized him, introducing a totalitarian police state; who enthusiastically announces he’ll murder the families of enemy combatants, forcing my active-military friends to be complicit in war crimes; and whose trigger-happy, thin-skinned, bullying, Putin-loving, clueless foreign policy could plunge the world into a 3rd world war. It used to be my job to point nuclear weapons at major population centers all over the planet; and if Donald Trump, as commander in chief, pushes the button, then it would literally have been me committing genocide at his request.
I take that seriously. You don’t need a college degree to understand it. I’ve never voted, and I’ll never vote. This isn’t about party politics.

Poor move by the Clinton campaign. Even if Hillary wins in November this name could be passed on to a potential 2020 challenger that could use a domain like this to argue against Hillary’s reelection.
$15,000 seems like a smart buy if it was Trump/Republican Party.

yes The opposition buys the domain. And will get free type in traffic and publicity. All negative towards Clinton. This domain has a 4 yr shelf like if Clinton is elected. This is a smart move by the trump campaign and a foolish move by Hillary.

What is Bill Clinton gonna hang out all day at The White House in his robe? Like Hugh Hefner. You think Bill is going to wait up late every night for Hillary to get off work as President, or will he find someone else in The White House that he can bang around Noon. The last time TheClintons left The White House they vandalized the place on way out, breaking keys off in desk locks, scratching the furniture, and they treated the Secret Service with contempt.

@SteveBrady
Bill Clinton probably will do what he’s been doing the last 16 years:
1) write books
2) give speeches
3) take trips
4) play golf
when you’re in the top .001 of the world with regard to net assets, you can do pretty much what you want, if your health is ok.
Al Gore, now that he’s close to being a billionaire and divorced, apparently is having the time of his life. Not sure if he’s still on the Board of Apple.
steve brady says
They will have to plan a lot of trips in order for Hillary to get the 10 Hours of sleep necessary for her to function normally each day. At The White House, the schedule is 4:30am to Midnight.
