There is a lot of information disseminated daily in the domain business. Talk of sales, auction reports, past successes, etc…
Sorting through the 95,000 plus comments here at TheDomains, there have been a number of comments that question the validity of a certain person, sales venue, or press release.
So how much of what you read day in and day out, do you believe to be true ? Vote below. Again this is your overall view about the industry day in and day out not just about one person, place or thing. There will be no unfounded accusations permitted in the comments so everyone knows up front. Saying Mr.**** is a crook or a liar without proof will be deleted. The purpose of the poll is to get a feel for how participants feel about the information they hear or read daily.

If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Common sense has to come into play eventually. 50% IMO
Domain says
Good idea, I love the fact that two douchebags voted zero. Really you don’t believe anything ? Remove the tin foil hats.
Sil says
Its meant to show intensity.. Ain’t no douche beeech!
Domain says
No intensity just douchebag city.

Didn’t 27.cn just sale for as much as or more than the dot com can get LOL
Frank says
I think the 27.cn article said 7 figure CNY (Chinese Yuan) 1million Yuan = $153,000. http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=1&From=USD&To=CNY
Anonymous says
7 is not a desirable Chinese number and COM is still more valuable than any ccTLD- even CN.
Domain says
7 is not undesirable.
Cowabunga says
4 and 0 are undesirable, 7 is ok.

The only person that I believe writes the truth 100% of the time is Andrew Alleman of Domain Name Wire. Everyone else you have to decipher their real agenda.
Domain says
I believe Rick and Mike are far more trustworthy than Alleman.
Frank says
I agree Rick is by far the most honest he has no reason to have an agenda he has a better portfolio than every other blogger. I also trust Berkens, Peterson, Hackney and Murphy at 100%.
Raymond Hackney says
Thanks for the inclusion Frank, I can say I have no hidden agendas about anything in the business. I have included more disclaimers and disclosures then anyone I have read. If I own or owned a domain I wrote about I posted that. If someone paid for an advertisement or a sponsored link it is noted as I believe most other bloggers in the space do.
I know a lot of disbelief comes from reported sales that happened on exchanges, some people feel there is no way a name sold for what it sold for. I think Sedo info is legit, Chinese marketplaces require a lot more due diligence.
Frank says
Raymond you don’t have to explain yourself anyone questioning your character I would see as a knave.
todd says
I didn’t question your integrity Ray. You have always been one of my favorite people in this industry.
C.S. Watch says
Alleman is trustworthy, he’s professional to the point of aridity. Interests are disclosed on DNW, unless they’re self-evident from the speaker. And having a portfolio doesn’t heighten one’s veracity (said everyone except the Donald).
thelegendaryjp says
Don’t trust anyone who has a vested interest, period.
Frank says
Then would that mean refute Sedo sales reports ?
Pasta says
Sales figures seem to be shaky sometimes… there could be some fudging to keep a robust market.

If you are in the business and writing about the business, you come in to it with a preset notion and baggage. That can be both good and bad for a reader.
I think there’s far less things a writer may have covered with some sort of secret agenda, then there are things they left unsaid. Typically you can spot the agendas a mile away. What’s not being covered in the space is probably more interesting . . . I’m hoping it’s not nefarious and just lack of knowledge, but the Adam Dicker stuff makes me wonder why it went on for so long. Maybe people in the space work with people they might “harm” by saying something about a certain person, company or advertiser. It’s easier just to pass on covering things than rock the boat. One guy that never cared about burning bridges and exposing things was Rick and another was Mike Cohen from Wanna Develop. Shane Bellone seems to have a similar attitude. . .
The space is filled with good people who write and I’m glad that you’ve all kept us informed. It’s hard to make the decisions on what to write and not write and always be on guard defending those decisions and putting yourself and potentially your business on the line. Thank you all

A few reasons I don’t get involved with other domainer’s is the mount of hate and bad mouth they have for each other. We want to be recognized as a class act. But then either kiss ass to the one’s that are successful like they are going to make you rich. If they wanted to by now they would have helped you and given out ALL the information instead of some and charging you for the rest. Or, bad mouth the one’s you might be jealous of.
The problem I personally have with some of the blogger’s is trying to get a rise like the media does with un-founded information. First they posed the major disclaimer that the new tld’s were going to take over the planet and com’s will be history. Have you seen that yet? All you have accomplished is shooting yourself in the foot and everybody else selling domains, creating hysteria. You’re not fortune Teller’s! You don’t have valid information supporting the fall of the .com or any other TLD for that matter! You should be reporting valid powerful information that support our industry. Always fact not fiction. Look at Business Insider or Forbes. They are about building businesses with informative information. Real insight for encouraging newbies on how to grow their business. These are some of the people buying your domains. I think it’s wise promoting domain industry information to the public and how a brand worthy domain makes a business.
Raymond Hackney says
@Todd I didn’t say you did that, I think it was Frank who mentioned that. Yeah you and I have always been cool.
This post was not just about bloggers, but sales reports and auction results as well. Parking clicks, etc…

It depends on the source. Someone at NP (newbie) shares something, the % of believing is quite less and I fully believe what is shared (sales) at DnJournal.
So in the end it depends where I am getting that info from…

Don’t know about all those connected but have been exceptionally impressed at the directness and openness of some of the well known – Rick, Mike B, Frank S.
It’s how they have treated others that carries the day for me and they have always been most gracious.
Thanks for your insights.
