The estate of Michael Jackson has filed a lawsuit against the KingofPop.com. The website sells popcorn and was purchased back in 2012, it was a former Michael Jackson fansite.
According to a report from TMZ.com
The estate claims the site tried to defend its use of the popular MJ moniker by saying the word “pop” is a “nickname for popcorn products.” The estate says that’s BS because “pop” is only a nickname for soda … in certain parts of the country.
Mike Maillet says
Pop is a very common term here in Canada that refers to soda drinks.
Acro says
There are several registered and pending trademarks at the USPTO, one of which for the current .com registrant.

I’ve used the term king of pop when popping popcorn because the popcorn strangely enough goes POP POP POP and not in reference to music because while I may enjoy a song or two (thriller by MJ being one, but only because I am a zombie fan so more due to the visual side of the clip than the audio), I’m not a music lover as such and have no clue as to what pop music is and can’t even name a musician in that area other than apparently MJ)
Ryan says
Given MJ is dead, let someone living use the term, they are not infringing on anything, they are selling popcorn, this trademark trolling crap is getting to be a bit much.
Dave Lahoti says
Hi Ryan,
You took the words out of my mouth, and I would like to connect with you to do some legal work with someone like you who is like minded if you are interested.
I’m really looking forward to your contact since I don’t know your last name.
Thank you,
Dave Lahoti
Abel Cantero says
But also is true that ‘King of Pop’ it’s a MJ album title (2008); and MJ is dead; but not his heritage.
Amanda says
I agree with Ryan. He has passed and that phrase is great for a popcorn domain. If they wanted it why did they let it go back in 2012?
