XYZ Launches .Security, .Protection, & .Theatre: All Domain Including Single Character Are Avail

January 27, 2016 by Michael Berkens

We just received an email from XYZ which launched the new gTLD extensions .Security, .Protection, and .Theatre today.

Apparently on the launch some registration requests for single character domain names  were being rejected due to a technical error, however we just received a note that the error has been fixed and that all domain names are available for registration (unless of course already registered)

None of the domain name have a premium renewal rate

Here is the email we received:

1 & 2 Character Domains Now Available

1 and 2 character .Security, .Protection, and .Theatre domains were NOT released at launch as expected. Upon investigation, we found that our system did not want to release these domains.

We have now manually released nearly ALL 1 and 2 character .Security, .Protection, and .Theatre domains for public registration without restriction. Please note that you can now register these domains for standard fees, including:

  • 1.Security
  • 4.Security
  • 3G.Security
  • TX.Security
  • 8.Protection
  • A.Protection
  • NY.Protection
  • OC.Protection
  • 1.Theatre
  • 8.Theatre
  • 88.Theatre
  • AA.Theatre
  • GA.Theatre
  • LA.Theatre
  • SF.Theatre
  • US.Theatre
We encourage you to try registering the 1 and 2 character domains you were originally interested in again. We apologize for the inconvenience. “””

    enterpriseapp.security is available! $3,499.99
    Renewal $3,499.99

    Pass.

If Negari starts selling these domains at these prices, and the sales are verified, this guy could sell sand in the Sahara desert.

I wonder if some of these new gtlds will lower their registration fees at some point, maybe a few months or a year into it? These initial sky high reg fees might just be there for the early buyers who are motivated to have a certain special name. Within a few months to a year these should be weeded out, then they can lower the reg fee and possibly get more people interested. I can’t see a standard $x,xxx annual fee being sustainable for any domain extension. We might even see this across many of the new gtlds this year as they try to stay alive by lower the fee bar.

By doing this you are just leaving the garbage, or garbage, at the same time you have the people paying $3000 a year in renewals scratching their head to why others are paying a lower amount, just one huge cluster F, that is only because ICANN has left such loopholes, which these people have opened up for exposure.

Premium fee domains have already dropped on several individual names.

Some have dropped from $x,xxx with an $x,xxx/year renewal to an $xxx with an $xxx/year renawal.

I have also seen a name go from $xx,xxx with an $xx/year renewal to a $xxx with an $xxx/year renewal

Currently however, the move is a special intro fee of 50%-90% discount for the first year followed by full yearly renewals ranging from $50 to $150

What’s your gtld domains market value… $5, what did you pay, $2,499 reg and renewal fee and have renewed it for years now lol

This will sadly be a true story.

The high price is not unexpected since this is early access.

      January 28, 2016 at 5:38 am

Actually, the $2k-$3k is the annual renewal fee for general availability.

You want to register ggjgtfgjgg.cars, that will be $3k/year, though as a sweetner, you might be able to get the first year for $2k

This is the sign, gtld owners are realizing the short lifespan of gtlds and want to cash in before they all turn into the Sahara desert

I didn’t buy an .xyz for $1 never the less I’m going to buy crappy.protection for $3,000? now that is funny.

      January 28, 2016 at 7:46 pm

      Phil,
If some G’s would have a sort lifespan they would not buy into .shop for $41,500,000.
When you have that much money, trust me those people are not stupid.

      • Thomas says

        February 1, 2016 at 12:44 am

Of course they are stupid. They don’t need to be smart because it isn’t their money on the line. If rich guys would always be right why did 2008 happen where the smartest guys in the room bought subprime mortgages and bank stocks like there’s no tomorrow? Wealth is created by good decisions and it will be destroyed by stupid decisions. We’ll see how it plays out.

    1.Security
    4.Security
    3G.Security
    TX.Security
    8.Protection
    A.Protection
    NY.Protection
    OC.Protection

All these names still available for $3K per year, come on guys what are you waiting for, millions of potential dollars sitting here. Endless end users, take a number, call your VC agent, this won’t last!!!

I seriously doubt that these domain names would be selling at much higher prices. Think of a case when such domain names doesn’t gets sold in first year, the owner has to pay for them at so much higher prices for renewal. To this day, I believe that dot com is the best option and dot net is the second best option. Buying these gTLDs might seems great but they will be handy in longer run but for now, they seems costly to me. May be more costly than they actually should be, Buying a gTLD’s like the above ones, .security and other, would be good in next 10 years but for now they are not worth buying at this higher price at all, that’s what I personally believe.

IMO Those renewal will do one thing. Will keep their price low. It will be hard to see such a name sold for $xxx.xxx.

Too many supplies, not so many buyers. No demands from the customers except to new domainers.

    January 29, 2016 at 11:29 am

If the price under $100 which affordable to hold for 10-20 years maybe I will consider buying these extension.

To register a .security for $2888/year is a joke.

For 3k you can buy a REAL CAR so why buy virtual

  18. Steve says

Well, they say these domains could be pretty valuable in 10-20 years. That it’s a marathon and not a sprint. So I’m gonna have to pass the opportunities to all you young folks, who are not afraid to take risks.

I have a wife and daughters to house and feed and to pay tuition for, so I’ll have to pass on this big opportunity. But good luck to you.
