The domain name Milano.com has been hit with a UDRP.
Milano as it is called in Italy, known to the rest of the world as Milan, one of the fashion capitals of the world.
The UDRP was filed by Grupo Milano, S.A. de C.V. whose website is Milano.com.mx.
Of course there are a ton of other trademarks on the term from cookies to clothing to bean bag chairs.
The domain recently transferred which often will be cause a UDRP filing.
The domain name is parked and has been parked for a long time.
We will keep an eye on this one.

Thanks for Sharing. Milano is also a common last name. The Milano Group is aware that they don’t have any rights on this. I hope the pannelists don’t get influenced by their bullish ways and sweet gifts.
They did bully somebody on a Milano dot ngtld very recently.

I see no recent transfer. The same owner has been on record since at least 2003, potentially earlier. Let’s hope a prominent attorney defends this one, it’s 100% a geo-domain.

The panel need only google “Milano” to see what the term is all about. It has nothing to do with the Mexican “Milano”.

The UDRP has become a simple application for theft – with no penalty (RDNH is impotent unless there is financial loss tied to it). WhenTF is ICANN going to do something about this? What luxurious tropical “conference” locale would be the most conducive for them to actually frickin accomplish something on this? Dbags.

No, when is somebody going to something about the FIFA of the Domain World?

They need to hope that WIPO don’t appoint the David J.A. Cairns, M. Scott Donahey, and Christopher S. Gibson, the 3 panelists who were the panel on the recent camilla.com UDRP case.
Andrea Paladini says
That’s laughable, those mexicans is trying to steal a domain they have no rights on whatsoever.
Some complainants are becoming more and more arrogant …
“Milano” is a pure geo domain, besides being the city where I was born 🙂
No links to the Complainant products as far as I can see.
No way they are gonna get it.
Hope the owner gets a strong legal representation to fight those silly allegations.
Andrea Paladini says
typo! “are trying”, oops 🙂

The heat is on, so WIPO panelists probably won’t order the confiscation of the domain name in this case.
Because the camilla.com UDRP case is in the headlines, WIPO don’t want another embarrassment so soon.
People have long since been questioning what controls and checks there are on WIPO panelists’ decisions. Many people imagined that ICANN were overseeing all of this, but they imagined wrong.
WIPO panelists who do not award RDNH, or even consider RDNH, in so many cases will this time probably be instructed to do so for a while just to keep the heat off.

Perhaps another severe embarassment is exactly what we need.
