Listed On Sedo: 8888888888.com $190K; 8888888888888.com for $88,888

November 10, 2015 by Michael Berkens

I was looking through Sedo’s recently announced numeric search engine and found a few interesting listings

The domain name 8888888888.com (that is 10 number 8’s) for  $190K; 8888888888888.com (that is 13 number 8’s) for $88,888

88.club is listed for $60,000

88872.com is listed for $24,000

52188.com is listed for $23,000

868888888.com is listed for 9,999 GBP which is about $15K.

888888.net is listed for $66,000 and has a bid of $6K.

There are plenty more numeric domains for sale on Sedo in various extensions but at the moment all of the listing are in pnly Chinese.

    8881238888.com ( 10 N ) has a interesting registrant.
    Registrant name: bsba
    Registrant Organization: ALIBABA !!!!!
    Country: CN
    Creation date : Sept 29 2015

    I think that 10N ; 888NNN8888, 8888NNN888, 88NNN88888 are most the most valuable one.

I know when I wanted a particular telephone number about 8 years ago. It cost me 10k. It wasnt even that pretty a name. It was 888-555-#### [not giving the number]

So maybe the market will develop along similar lines?
      888888555555.com looks kinda pretty?

For the Chinese, It’s about easy to remember patterns, with numbers that have meaning (8’s, 7’s… for example). So yes, they have value to the Chinese.

95% of the domains I own are dot com.. I am speculating some with a few premium dot online, dot co, etc. If you would call those premium.

I actually have bought a few numerics and they flipped quickly on GD for a good profit.

I still have some like 8588888858.com. Not sure if I should sell now or hold. What do you all think?

Did you sell 10N patterns like the above one? How did the sale go? Curious on 10n – 12n patterns. Are people buying them?

when did u register? when did you flip? what did you make?

I’ve never been able to list on Sedo without getting this:

“Please note listings may not exceed 10,000 USD. If you believe your listing is worth more than 10,000 USD, please order an Appraisal or do not enter a specific price.”

So what does this mean? All those who have listed at such prices and beyond have really gotten an appraisal from Sedo first? I find that hard to believe. Have they also paid for this or is that free?

Personally I consider it pointless and extremely undesirable to have to request an appraisal as a condition for pricing at any amount. I also would simply not even want Sedo giving any appraisals, much less any I might not agree with.

P.S. Let’s take the example of 82.org currently listed on Sedo for $480,000. Does anyone really believe someone first got an appraisal from Sedo before being allowed to list it for that?

2nd highest art sale ever — over $150 million, a Modigliani, purchased yesterday by a guy, who was driving a cab in China 8 years ago – now he’s a billionaire. Go figure,.

Just got the last all 8 chinese mobile phone number (prefix 14). There is an entry on Google showing that the phone number itself was on the market for 1.6m RMB. About $250k.
The domain is 14888888888.com same as the phone number.

Let’s take the examples of the two mentioned in the title of this blog post listed on Sedo now:

    8888888888.com $190,000
    8888888888888.com $88,888

Were the owners of these domains really first required to get an appraisal from Sedo before being allowed to list them for those prices over $10k? And did Sedo in fact give them an appraisal of at least those prices? Does anyone even believe that is what happened prior to these listings being allowed to be made?

I guess no one else can relate to the $10k cap on Sedo listings without an appraisal. Lol.

  21. John says

    November 12, 2015 at 2:01 am

You know, to tell you the truth, I’ve never even tried to see if Sedo charges for this appraisal they demand from at least SOME customers before being allowed to list above $10k. Like I’ve said, I wouldn’t take it even if it was free, so never bothered to check. It’s occurred to me that if they do charge, that would really be the famous old “domain appraisal” scam on a massive institutional level. Must be quite a cash cow if so. Remarkable…
