.Sex is Live

November 4, 2015 by Michael Berkens

ICM Registry, the registry operator for the .XXX, .PORN, .ADULT and .SEX top-level domains (TLDs), announces the launch of its general availability period for .SEX.

Domain names in all of ICM Registry’s extensions are now available for public purchase.

Retail prices vary by registrar but Godaddy is charging $72 for a .sex domain name.

According to ntldstats.com .Sex got just over 3,800 domain registrations through Sunrise and the .XXX matching program although the registry told me that .sex had 4,140 domains registered. ntldstats.com only counts domains that have servers.

Stuart Lawley, Chairman and CEO of ICM Registry is quoted as saying:

“With over 20,000 names registered in our new adult TLDs this year and over 4,000 names registered during our special launch programs for .SEX, there is clearly a strong interest in these extensions, considering the success of our previous launch phases, we’re looking forward to .SEX becoming accessible to the general public.”

ICM Registry offers adult-industry keyword names as a part of its ongoing Premium Program, including two character premium names in .PORN, .ADULT and .SEX. For the adult industry, premium keywords are now on both sides of the dot in a domain name.

For the first time ICM Registry is making internationalized domain names (IDNs) available as second level names in all of its TLDs. Domain names in over twenty languages and scripts from around the world, including German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese are now available for global registration.

So right now I’m thinking that the .Sex GA kinda just helped crash part of Dynadot’s system… I had placed follow up orders and then started chatting w/ support about ’em… they had orders backed up for almost an hour before I started seeing a tactically ominous Server Error message on my account page:

There has been an internal error in our server. An email has been sent to our technical team who will resolve the problem as soon as possible. Please try your request again later. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

So, I did the nasty and went over to order from GoDaddy ’cause I have an account there for clients… and, I got my final two names after all – even better, before Dynadot choked I managed to grab a few gems for the collection just as GA opened.

Based on this experience and my own haphazardly informed guesswork, I’m thinking .Sex will perform well… we’ll just have to watch and see =)

i bought a bunch of .xxx domains when they came out but zero offers 4 years later…won’t be wasting my time on anymore adult strings. only the super ultra premium .xxx, sex, porn, adult domains will ever sell.

Michael, I think that everyone has moments where *stuff* just doesn’t work as expected… hopefully Dynadot is an attentive provider and improves the robustness of their platform in future =)

The extension has a bright future in jokes, I know that for sure!

cmac, you said it – focus on only the super ultra premium ones…

90% of which are reserved. i saw a few that weren’t being held that i wouldn’t of minded getting but i am just focusing on mainstream .com .. selling adult is too hard these days. i’ve let most of my adult domains expire just because there are never any offers.

They aren’t even cheap and they are blocked at ISP level in many countries, I don’t see why anybody would prefer them over a £10 year .xyz or .net
