The domain name that made international news, KanyeForPresident.com has gone up for sale on Flippa.com
Back in August at the MTV Video awards Kanye West announced he will be running for President of the United States in 2020.
A 24-year-old Tramal Ferguson of Marietta, Georgia registered the domain name KanyeForPresident.com “on a whim back in April 2015” and reportedly turned down offers as high as $80,000, shortly after Mr. West’s announcement.
Now the domain is at auction on Flippa.com.
The auction which has only a day to go has a high bid of just $2,050 and has not hit reserve far short of the reported $80,000 offer.

I suppose my domain KanyeForUsPresident.com is cheaper than Tramals 🙂

If I took a dump in a box, it would be more valuable than that domain

I’ve got t-shirts for sale if anybody wants one.

Anyone ever offer you $80K for your box full of crap?

I was speaking intrinsically…
striker says
As in “intrinsic value”…both my box of sphincter-squeeze and the aforementioned domain have the same intrinsic value to anyone who possesses even a modicum of intellectual honesty.

Striker
I got that
I do have a small sense of humor
Joseph Peterson says
“reportedly turned down offers as high as $80,000”
Why didn’t he say $800,000?
John R says
It will be interesting to see if this domain sales on Flippa for more than $3K.
I think the domainer may regret passing up $80K on that name.
Everyone knows Kanye will say anything for attention. Did the domainer miss his op?
We shall see.
Joseph Peterson says
@John R,
I doubt he missed any opportunity.
Mat says
Personally I don`t think he missed an oportunity. If $80K offer was true potential buyer come back for sure. The only question is how high the next offer will be…
James Halderman says
While on the discussion what might be the estimated value for something of more reality such as trumpforpresident.com or carsonforpresident.com ?
Joseph Peterson says
New domainers always rush out to buy domains for election campaigns. In 30 years, has anybody sold 1 for anything significant? I can’t remember hearing of any.
Domains like these get covered in domain blogs and the mainstream media because they’re symptomatic of what’s going on. We hear the guys boast about implausible offers they’ve turned down, and no seasoned domainers believe them. But the myth keeps going.
Bobby.Lafaye says
It’s not only new domainers who buy into the headlines or prospect on the future.
Ask the Domain King how much he wants for carsonforpresident.com and you’ll get the best approximation of it’s worth.
Ultimately the old adage applies.
Joseph Peterson says
@Bobby.Lafaye,
Which old adage? Probably more than 1.
Listen, Rick Schwartz is someone I respect. He’s a pioneer; and he continues to be an amazingly successful investor, based on instincts he acted upon over the years. Rick Schwartz helped forge an industry, a community out of a chaotic, barely intelligible mess.
Something to keep in mind is that Rick Schwartz experiments. He casts a wide net. He tries things. They don’t all turn to gold. And they don’t need to. Out of a large portfolio, he sells just a tiny fraction of his assets very slowly … for very large prices. If the portfolio contains a few duds, that will be just fine. Taking chances is the way this works. Seeing what happens.
In the case of domains like these, I don’t see any evidence of real market demand. I’m not omniscient. Neither is Rick Schwartz. That’s why I asked if anybody had heard of real sales in this area. Nobody presented a shred of evidence; so I suspect I’m right.
If Rick Schwartz told me he’d received an $80k offer for CarsonForPresident.com, then I’d believe him. But I don’t believe this other kid. And I’m guessing Rick has not turned down $80k for his domain.
But I love being proved wrong.
