The new domain extension .XYZ has crossed the 1 Million domain name registration mark again.
However now all of the “free” Network Solutions (NetSol) domain names that were stuffed into customers accounts on a non-automatic renewal basis have run their course.
So all remaining Netsol registrations for an .XYZ domain exist because the owner paid to register or renew the domain
According to Zone file records .XYZ crossed back over 1,000,000 domain registration mark for the first time today, since before all the “free” Network Solutions domains expired.
According to the latest zone files there are 1,005,850 .XYZ domain names registered, still leading all new gTLD’s registries, and at this point, none of the domain are free.
The number of .XYZ domain names that are registered by Network Solutions are now under 20,000 or account for just 23% of all .XYZ registrations after hitting a high of 85% of all .XYZ registrations back in July of 2014.
We at TheDomains.com were the first to figure out that the .XYZ registry had a deal with Network Solutions to give free domain names away to existing NetworkSolutions.com customers back in June of 2014 the day after .XYZ launched.
However if you look at the domain name registrars for .XYZ today you can see that NetworkSolutions.com is now down to the 10th largest registrar for .XYZ domain names.
The Japan based GMO is now the biggest registrar of .xyz domain names, while NameCheap.com is number 2 in the world with the next 3 spots going to domain name registrars based in China
Of course Google re-branding to Alphabet using the domain name abc.xyz didn’t hurt
Ricardo says
Daniel Negari has probably found another way to inflate the numbers. I would not be surprised if he has been buying thousands of xyz domains by using shell companies. That guy would do anything to make money.

So?

“None Of Them Are Free”
How many are $1. Is it really that much difference.
Inland says
Just like with magazine subscriptions and product sampling, it’s all about the renewals.
Is there really a meaningful difference between a 99 cent domain deal on a .com from GoDaddy and free-to-try?
Ben says
99 cent deals on .coms? They have stopped doing that long time ago. Coupon codes on .coms are extremely limited right now and almost always for one use only.
.xyz on the other hand is being sold for $1 a pop on many registrars and this is for unlimited registrations. The keyword is unlimited here. If suddenly there would be a way to get unlimited .coms for $1 a pop my guess .com would be growing 10 times as fast as it’s growing now.
Ross says
Whether the domains were free, $1 or more, it all supports branding. If people have built sites on these free domains it’s unlikely they will drop them at renewal. DotCom is our primary business with our other purchases being in brand supported GTLDs like XYZ.
Michael Berkens says
Ben
Go to 1and1.com
.Com is free
Ben says
That’s for new customers only and again limited to one domain per customer. I’m a new customer from Belgium and for some reason they don’t accept Belgium customers, go figure. I wonder what other counttries 1and1 doesn’t accept regarding this promotion. Seems extremely limited to me.
Michael Berkens says
Yes I think there is a huge difference between stuffing domain names into people’s account with out them even asking for i and selling a domain for a $1.
It looks like 8% of the Netsol free stuffed domains manually renewed which is pretty good.
How many $1 domains will renew is yet to be seen, but .Top which also has sold hundreds of thousands of $2 or $1 domains just sold 8.Top for almost $80K and 8.xyz sold for over $80K. I now see .xyz domains selling on namejet.com in the $xxx almost every day and we have reported on $x,xxx sales
So I’m not sure why people would bitch about buying a domain for $1 and selling it for hundreds or thousands
Ben says
Those .xyz names are directly from the .xyz registry as far as I can tell, not from a domain investor selling his .xyz inventory. Also NJ has been constantly showing a banner for these .xyz domains to promote them (for a few months now it seems). Yet more than half of the .xyz domains currently listed on NJ have zero bids and the highest bid on all of the domains that do have bids is $101 right now (firewall.xyz), a domain that would probably be worth 6 or even 7 figures in .com.
But you’re right, selling a $1 domain for a few hundreds is nothing to bitch about but realistically I don’t see many domain investors being successful in selling .xyz domains, even for $100 USD.

Sir,
I sold .xyz names…
1) some nnn.xyz names for $3000 (sale completed and received money in my bank)
2) keyword domain .xyz for $3500 (buyer paid to escrow and domain under transfer now)
3) keyword domain .xyz for $2500 (buyer paid to escrow and domain under transfer now)
4) some nnn.xyz names for $10000 (buyer initiated escrow and waiting to confirm escrow payment)
5) received 100+ offers thru dns for my different .xyz names and negotiating with buyers
6) received offers of $50k+ for some of my nnn.xyz names from Chinese investors, I am looking for more!
I know, some friends here will not believe me. For them, I will send email to Mr.Berkens after completing the sales with proof of sales.
For those who wish to invest in .xyz names……. I registered my 1st .xyz name after google abc xyz news. (August 15th 2015). Now I own 1700+ numbers of .xyz names and my total registration cost is less than 3500 usd. I could cover my total registration cost by selling a single .xyz name. Still 10 months more to sell my remaining names.
What do you think, I have to register more .xyz names or I have to hate .xyz and blame other domain investors who register and make money with .xyz names?. Please reply to me.
Ben says
I congratulate you with your sales (if they are real) but let’s be honest: you’re the exception here, not the rule.
Some comments though:
1. If you scroll down you’ll see that in another comment of mine I said that to make one .xyz sale someone probably needs over 500 .xyz domains. You say you now own over 1,700 number .xyz domains and you said you sold how many of those? 3? So that proves my point I think.
But yes, if you really sold these 3 or 4 nnn.xyz domains for $13,000 in total and you only paid $3,500 for all of your .xyz domains then the profit you made is of course really nice. But as many will point out, there’s no proof of this (please send this proof to Mr.Berkens as per your own suggestion).
2. How many keyword .xyz domains you own to get those 2 keyword .xyz sales? I assume it’s a lot more than 2 😉
3. You say you have 1700+ number .xyz domains (eventhough you didn’t mention how many keyword .xyz domains you have) and your total registration fee is under 3,500 USD. I realize most of .xyz registrations are sold for $1 a pop but is this the same for renewals? I always though for .xyz renewals you pay around $5-$15 a pop (not saying this is correct, I have no .xyz domains registered but I know someone who does and he told me his renewal price is a lot higher than his registration price).
4.Like I said in point 1 the amounts you sold these domains for seem off the charts. If I look at the aftermarket then sales of .xyz seem WAY lower (in price). IMO if what you say is true then you got extremely lucky. Most people don’t. I do understand the Chinese craze right now for number domains (and an NNN.COM is probably worth 6 to 7 figures right now) so maybe that’s what happened.
5. Regarding your quote ” I have to register more .xyz names or I have to hate .xyz and blame other domain investors who register and make money with .xyz names?”
Nobody here is blaming any domain investors who make money with .xyz. If you make money with .xyz I’m happy for you (This is not an issue about “jealousy” but you seem to want to make it look like that lol). But as far as I can see most domain investors are not making money with .xyz.
The main issue is that a lot of domain investors started to invest in .xyz based on the fake popularity that Negari claimed it had. And now a lot of these domain investors are in the red. So when I see a post about .xyz that states that .xyz finally reached 1 million real .xyz registrations (since the hundred thousands of robot-registrations from netsol finally expired) the fact still remains that this current “popularity” of .xyz is the result of fake numbers that Negari claimed were real and that a lot of people were and still are a victim of this false advertising.
Joy Antony says
Sir,
Sent the proof to Mr. Berkens.
For your information, we can’t buy a good .com name for $3500 and also there is no guarantee to sell the name with profit. There are lot of examples that .com/other tld names purchased with high price and sold for loss. But here, .xyz charge only $1 (I registered for $1.88) and I could register 1700+ names for $3500. At any time, I can sell my .xyz names for $10/each as I believe my domain names have minimum quality. Pls find some of my names I registered this week, nightwear.xyz, diploma.xyz, sophie.xyz, booth.xyz, microscope.xyz…I am sure, you will also buy the names if I sell for $$. If I buy a domain name like lovekjleo.xyz, nobody will look into the domain and I will lose the money, which is applicable to every tlds, including .com.
I owned some .com/.net names since 2002 and kept the names with me for more than 10+ years to sell to buyers. But the domain names could not attract any buyers and dropped most of the names by paying 10+ years renewal cost.
I think, .xyz is the best gtld to invest now with small investment. .xyz can use with any words, same like .com.
Also for your information, I am not against .com or any other tlds, I own my city.com, my town.com, my near cities/towns .com names and kept with me to develop. But now, we cant expect good profit from newly registered .com/..domain names.
thanks.

Two more stuff I forgot to add:
Your quotes: “1) some nnn.xyz names for $3000 (sale completed and received money in my bank)”
“6) received offers of $50k+ for some of my nnn.xyz names from Chinese investors, I am looking for more!”
So in 1) you say you sold some nnn.xyz for 3,000 USD and in 6) you supposedly received offers of $50K on some of your other nnn.xyz names. Why in earth’s name would you accept to sell a nnn.xyz for $3,000 and decline offers of $50K (I assume you declined them since you didn’t sell anything for $50K) on your other nnn.xyz names?
Either those $50K offers were fake (I got a $2M offer on a mediocre .com a week ago from a chinese guy) or never happened (because I don’t see the logic that you would decline a $50K offer when you are accepting $3K ones).
Joy Antony says
Sir,
I owned 290 numbers of nnn.xyz names, and still I own 250+ nnn.xyz names. I sold 12 numbers of nnn.xyz names for total $3000 (1). Pls note, $3000 for 12 nnn names. sorry for the misunderstanding (some nnn = 12 nnn.xyz names). Here I sold for cheap, as the buyer is a big investor and I sold to him to cover my registration cost of total .xyz names. Still I have offers from the buyer, but not selling my nnn now for the price.
(6) I received offer of $50k for my 150 numbers of .xyz names. But I dont want to sell for the price.
hope, it is clear now.
regards,

Joy, great sales!
I would love to get in touch with you. 🙂

Since many domain commenters such as @ricardo and @ben continue to gripe about $1.00 domain names, I decided to visit one registrar that I know (ENCIRCA.COM) and see what the pricing looks like there.
I must admit that I am cheap, and I would rather risk $1.00 500X rather than $500 1X. But, that’s just me.
Now, I don’t claim to know all the answers, however here is what I found. It appears to me that there are numerous other gTLDs being offered for $1.00.
.accountant $1.00
.bid $1.00
.cricket $1.00
.download $1.00
.loan $1.00
.party $1.00
.racing $1.00
.science $1.00
.webcam $1.00
.win $1.00
.work $2.00
I’d be interested in reading news about the status of other TLDs and gTLDs.
At NamesCon, I saw presentations by .UNO and .LUXURY, yet rarely come across any news.
The domain market is far bigger than the few individuals that keep getting thrown under the bus by so-called domainers.
Have a great weekend.

There will always be registrars that temporarily offer discounts on some domain extensions. I remember seeing a .website being offered for $1 a while ago too. Nothing wrong with that.
However, when 90% of all registrars are offering .xyz for $1 (some registrars are even using this discounted pricing permanently it seems) then quality (if there ever was any) of that extension starts to suffer. Spammers buying it for mass emailing purposes, scammers buying it to build shady websites,… Having permanent $1 prices for domain extensions (any domain extension, doesn’t have to be .xyz) will boost registrations but it generally won’t boost aftermarket sales.
For Negari registration numbers (regardless of how they were obtained) were obviously all that ever mattered but for domain investors the only thing that matters is aftermarket sales. How many individuals (not talking about the .xyz registry) have been successful in selling .xyz domains on the aftermarket? Not many. And the ones that are successful in selling some of their .xyz inventory are usually selling a premium one word .xyz for 2 to maximum 3 figures. What does that tell you about the value of .xyz and what does that tell you about what those domain investors think about the value of their .xyz domains (since they are flipping it fast for a $50-$100 profit instead of holding it long-term)? Yet some “domain investors” keep defending .xyz like it’s the best thing since sliced bread (not directed at Michael Berkens, I think he’s a great domain investor which I greatly respect) when in fact it seems a lot of these domain investors are currently dumping their .xyz portfolio in the hopes of getting out fast with a tiny profit (even though realistically I think most of them will end up with zero profit).
But yes, it’s not all about .xyz. The domain market is bigger than that (Hallelujah!). In general though, I don’t see many of the new gTLDs thriving on the aftermarket. The new gTLDs are currently imo a high-risk investment at best. .Club and some other new gTlds currently are doing relatively good on the aftermarket though. I’m a .COM man but I’m not against the new gTLDs, I have a little bit invested in some of the new gTLDs as well as I believe some of them will do well in the future. I never have and never will invest in .xyz though. What Negari did to get those 1 million .xyz domain registrations will not be forgotten easily by most of domain investors.
Have a great week.
Leonard Britt says
While $1 promos could inflate the registration stats, if 1% of those registrations result in aftermarket sales, you would have ten thousand .XYZ aftermarket sales annually or roughly 200/week. I don’t believe we are seeing that many XYZ sales appearing on the charts so draw your own conclusions. Registrations are a statistic but for investors aftermarket sales (not registry sales) are what count.
Domain Observer says
Why not sell a domain for $10 that one bought $1? If he can do that within a year, it’s 900% ROI. If anyone wants more, I guess it’s greed.
Ben says
It would be truly amazing if every .xyz domain you buy for $1 you end up selling for $10. Most likely though you’ll need to register more than 500 .xyz domains to be able to sell just one of them. The others will simply collect dust. There is practically no demand for .xyz domains in the aftermarket (only the xyz registry is able to sell some of its inventory for dump prices).
Domain Observer says
Understandable. Thanks.
AUS31 says
I don’t think people should be selling a 1 dollar domain for 10 bucks, they should hold onto it a bit longer. It’s insane to see premium keyword names being sold for $100 to $200, take advantage of it by buying it, I did.
ada says
$1? mhh I bet spammers love .xyz
SoFreeDomains says
Negari is actually lucky with .xyz. If Google didn’t come up with abc.xyz, many of the giveaway .xyz domains may not be renewed.
Ben says
@Joy Antony
Ok I understand now, you sold 12 nnn.xyz for a total of $3,000 USD. So a total of $250 USD per sold nnn.xyz domain. You have a remaining of 250 nnn.xyz domains which you say are not sold (no clue how much you paid for those remaining 250). So I’m not sure what your total profit in all of this is, if any.
Your quotes:
“For your information, we can’t buy a good .com name for $3500”
I strongly disagree with that statement. You can easily find a good .com for that price on the aftermarket.
“there is no guarantee to sell the name with profit”.
That’s the case with any extension. Even more so with the new gTLDs in general.
Statistically though you have the best chance in selling a good .com compared to any other extension out there (based on the results on the aftermarket and end-user demand). I’m glad YOU are selling your .xyz domains but like I said before most .xyz domain investors are not successful in selling much of their .xyz portfolio.
“There are lot of examples that .com/other tld names purchased with high price and sold for loss. ”
True, but there’s many more examples of purchased .com/other tld names (purchased for a high price or even low price) that sold for big profit though (ask Mr. Berkens for some of his latest .com sales/profits lol).
Personally, I’m selling plenty of .COMs yearly for a big profit as well. If my business model with .com wasn’t working I would try something else. But I never had to try something else since my .com portfolio delivers. Simple as that.
“At any time, I can sell my .xyz names for $10/each”
You sure about that?
“Pls find some of my names I registered this week, nightwear.xyz, diploma.xyz, sophie.xyz, booth.xyz, microscope.xyz…I am sure, you will also buy the names if I sell for $$.”
No I won’t.
“I owned some .com/.net names since 2002 and kept the names with me for more than 10+ years to sell to buyers. But the domain names could not attract any buyers and dropped most of the names by paying 10+ years renewal cost. ”
So YOU weren’t successful in selling your .com/.net portfolio. Gotcha. But please don’t assume other people have the same issues.
“I think, .xyz is the best gtld to invest now”
I disagree. I’m making plenty of money with .com and based on the .xyz sales I see on the aftermarket (or lack thereof) I can make my own conclusions.
” I received offer of $50k for my 150 numbers of .xyz names. But I dont want to sell for the price.”
So you sold 12 nnn.xyz’s as a bulk package for basically $250 per domain yet you don’t want to sell 150 nnn.xyz’s as a bulk package for basically $333 per domain? Ok, I understand you hope you will get a better offer one day. I wish you good luck.
