I came across a blog post on PublicDomains.com and it talked about ABC.mx being sold by the owner of the blog.
To our surprise one of our domains sold last week (08/04/1) and matches Google’s new site, that domain is ABC.mx.
We purchased the domain back in September of 2009 from the landrush phase at a price of $799.99, and we were using it for our own corporate online business.
Our assumption is that the domain was bough by Google or it’s new spun-off Alphabet, because of the purchase price: $17,700.00. But as of today the domain doesn’t resolve, at least not in my web browser. We may be wrong, maybe this was only bought by a re-seller, but only time will tell.
Congrats on a great sale, the domain is currently shows:

Yes, Google probably bought the domain name considering the amount paid for it. Also the registrar MarkMonitor is related to large companies.

Talk about a complete wate of money, what does abc.mx have to do with abc.xyz? They’ve bought trash yet don’t own the one domain that counts.
@PotentialNames says
@snoopy — You just don’t get it.

that is their point precisely ( if any ) mr dog snoopy;

The .com is off the table.
Unless Google/Alphabet buys Disney, extreme just to secure the .com.
Snoopy says
It is but what is the point of throwing money at names that have near nothing to do with their business? They could now buy up abc.everything and it is not going to add 1 cent of value to their business.
Garth says
Agree. One extension would do.
To them this is chump change, with a spattering of five figure sum purchases.

Did not see that article Theo or wouldn’t have written about it, sorry about that one.

Apparently, ABC.COM.ES also sold last week for over $15 K.
My guess: buyer is either Google or Disney (owner of ABC.com) – those with abc country extensions could get unexpected windfalls.
Samit says
Going to agree with snoop here, without the .com all this other ‘brand protection’ is a complete waste of time and money.
Garth says
Buying up country code extension’s where possible makes sense.
The blue chip firms do that all day long.

Looks like they got .cm

ABC will never surrender ABC.com American Brodcasting Corp.
an excercise in futility.

Ummm no, the other companies buy up their brand.country code ext where customers engage the site. No one is going to visit alphabet, the holding company. They will visit the companies under the abc umbrella: google, Nest, etc. this is stupid and a pure waste of cash. They want abc dot com and will never have it….unless they want to own ESPN, Disney, ABC…
