GTLD.link is a forum that focuses solely on new gtlds. Last night at 8:28 a member posted he owned Alphabet.xyz and sold it.
So, I received a $2,500 Sedo offer last week for alphabet.xyz. I didn’t think much of the domain, so I countered with $3,800, and the buyer accepted. And then, this today: https://www.thedomains.com/2015/08/10…ame-is-abc-xyz
Feeling very stupid right now.
Could have easily sold for $15k.
You can go to GTLD.link and follow the discussion that took place after the initial post.
The domain is currently under super privacy at Dynadot.

I don’t think this guy should feel stupid at all-how was he to know it was Google? Hopefully he’s not too tough on himself-he sold a .xyz for a great price so congrats to him.
Adam says
Congrats on being the only person/company to ever sell an .xyz

There have been several .xyz sales by gtld.link members.
Tom says
Notable sale, where you get your investment back, along with paying for all the dead weight you are carrying.

Wake up, newbies!
Besides of this lucky guy, registry and registrars are the only money makers.
The value of 99.99999% of new gTLD domain names is below its registration fee.
Bobby says
Dude,
You know you’re not believing what you’re saying. Unless of course your holding the second and third string .coms that trade hands between domainers on the aftermarket, and are losing value daily.
You guys keep swapping those around while Mike B. and other gtld.link members keep scooping up the best strings in EAP.
Read my A Few New series to see who’s buying what in the new era of domain names.
Mike says
I do believe what I am saying. But fell free to take a lesson, if you can afford that.
Steve says
As they say, Win/Win.
Most people would have accepted the $2500 offer. Those who really don’t need the cash, would say, wait a minute, WTF.
A few people have opined that Google may buy the entire .xyz registry/extension. Really not a bad idea. Google could index, by letter: everything – all the world’s information.
Go figure or go letter..
Mike says
Why so much talks about .xyz and new gTLDs?
There is nothing to follow. Get over it.
One swallow does not a summer make.

.xyz domains are still worthless.
If u register .xyz domain today, consider that money gone down the toilet.
Only the registry owner will benefit from this, .xyz domain owners will lose their money.
Good Luck and be smart!!!
Andrew says
Wow, everyone’s biting on this one, huh? Did you look at the historical whois records? It was sold by the registry.
Andrew says
Ah, sorry, I read it as abc.xyz. I don’t think alphabet.xyz is worth much.
@domains says
I wonder why he registered it in the first place?
Hard to imagine .xyz taking off because of this one incident. Though it would also have been hard to imagine last week that Google would create Alphabet and use a .xyz domain for it!
Without knowing it was Google on the other end, how much would anyone have really asked for Alphabet.xyz? It was a good sale all things considered, but it isn’t often that a company like Google comes calling for one of your domains.
Bobby says
A name does not become a brand until it becomes well known. Negari put .xyz out there, and the Google story now makes it well known brand. The value of alphabet.xyz before the story was in the combination of the keyword + xyz as a clevely crafted brand.
The original offer was $2500 but obviously the brand was worth more to both parties. If the seller felt he new how much it was worth, perhaps he would have set it to BIN on Sedo. It could have been more or less than $3800. Bottom line is it’s worth what someone’s gonna pay for it.

Another worthless dot whatever domain.
It is not a business domain name and after a couple more days, everything will die down.
Every roads lead to dot com.
dot com is still KING

Bull keep chase on dotcom highway dont forget there is well ahead
Domain Shame says
If the name sold for 3800 usd obviously it’s not worthless.

abcxyz.com must be receiving tons of traffic. abcxyz.com/net/org/info/tv/co.uk/me/co/news etc are all taken.
abcxyz.link is pending delete. Grab it before Google goes for it. LOL !!
Kim Kardishian says
No surpirse here… even the gmail address abc.xyz and alphabet.xyz have been taken.

SoFreeDomains says
It’s not a bad sale for that price considering the fact that it belongs to the new gTLD.
