Bizjournals.com reported today that a giant Billboard carrying the domain name NewYork.Sucks has gone up across from Boston Fenway Park the home of the Boston Red Sox.
The billboard faces the Mass Pike and is right behind Fenway Park.
Vox Populi, the company that owns the .new gTLD domain registry .Sucks paid for and is behind the billboard campaign.
“Vox Populi is a subsidiary of Canadian-based Momentous Corp., which acquired the .sucks domain name for $3 million last year.”
According to the story, Vox Populi CEO and self-professed Yankees fan John Berard said “the Boston billboard is one of two that have sprouted up around the country. The other, near San Francisco’s Bay Bridge, promotes the site “Traffic.Sucks, and, for the record, the website Boston.Sucks is already taken by Vox Populi and could appear on a billboard in New York at some point”
“A Red Sox spokesman said the team had no comment and has “nothing to do with that billboard.”

I drove by this sign while I was in Boston earlier this week. It felt a bit tasteless in person.

I’m a big Red Sox fan. I was at Fenway in 2004 during the Red Sox comeback over the Yankees. But I don’t like this sign, as I have great respect for the NY Yankees, and really this .sucks is childish, at best.

Slimy work from slimy tld peddler.

Traffic.sucks is one thing, NewYork.sucks in this instance has an entirely different feel to it. The promotion of hooliganism/hatred.
I guess they could always put up…
Canada.sucks/USA.sucks on the boarder

Putting up NYC.sucks in front of Fenway Park where Redsox play is related to a sports rivalry with the Yankees and all in good fun, it has nothing to do with “hatred” and is similar to the Beat.La domain name the Phoenix Suns put up to recoginze the rivalry with the Los Angeles Lakers
