Four new gTLD’s had their first day of general availability (GA) yesterday, where domain names could be registered on a first come, first served basis, and as expected both .Site and .News had big days.
Including the domain name registered in the Sunrise period by trademark holders, those that paid additional fees to register domain names ahead of GA in the Early Access Period, here are the total number of domain names registered after day 1 of GA:
.Site 9,788
.News 9,122
.Cafe 1,727
.Express 916
In the case of .Site over 41% of all registrations (over 4,000 domain names) came from the domain name registrar,
Chengdu West Dimension Digital Technology Co., Ltd. of China, including over 1,000 registrations on day 5 of the EAP period.
The domain name registrar has over 209,000 domain new gTLD registrations overall.
.Site is the shorter version of the new gTLD .Website is one of the most registered new gTLD’s which has almost 95,000 registrations.

Does the expression Chump Change mean anything to you guys?

Looks like most of the city.news domains are still priced at $60,000. Priced for deep-pocketed end-users…I could see most of these staying unregistered for several years.
