Welcome to the always interesting and often “breaking news” series called Domain Movers exclusively here on TheDomains!
I scour the web and watch what companies are buying and registering domain name wise and report to you what I see. I heavily rely on whois records, which doesn’t always speak the whole story but most of the time it is providing factual information as to what is happening with a domain name.
Here are the latest domain name movers:
Twitter Inc. registered the domain names TwitterAudiencePlatform.com and TwitterCommerceCollections.com adding to its nearly 2,000 domain name portfolio.
HG.com has likely been sold according to whois records? The domain was listed for sale and owned by a LiuRaymond with a 62.com email address and registered at eName. The domain then transferred to GoDaddy.com going under whois privacy protection and now displays a Linxiaobin with a 126.com email address.
Osolabs has acquired the domain name AcceptChange.com from Protopixel Pty Ltd. The domain name has been registered since September 13, 2007 and was parked and registered with Fabulous.com Pty Ltd.
Student Sports LLC has acquired the domain name TheOpening.com from Vertical Axis. They offer a training event for elite high school players called The Opening and also use the Twitter handle @TheOpening.
Amazon Technologies? Several “alexa” domain names have been registered but using the generic whois data of MarkMonitor. Amazon owns Alexa.com but it is also the “name” with-in the Echo.
Alexa-Fund.com, AlexaApi.com, AlexaAppKit.com, AlexaAsk.com, AlexFund.com, .net, AlexaSkillKit.com, AlexaSkills.com, AlexaSkillsKit.com and the likely tie in to Amazon? The domain registrations continued with AmazonAppKit.com, AmazonAsk.com, AmazonEchoApi.com, AmazonSkills.com and AmazonSkillsKit.com were also registered.
They continued with EchoAsk.com, EchoAppKit.com, EchoSkills.com and EchoSkillsKit.com
Red Bull GmbH registered the domain name CampStewartCafe.com
SPDE Domain Names Inc. has allowed the domain name CountThem.com to expire and it was grabbed on the drop by a Joshua Eisenhower at GoDaddy. Joshua owns over 5,000 domain names.
NBCUniversal Media, LLC has registered the domain name ColonyIsComing.com and has acquired the domain name HarryTV.com from BuyDomains.com for $2,442.
Marvel Characters, Inc. has registered several new domain names and those are DogsOfHellMc.com, DogsOfHellNewYork.com, DogsOfHellNY.com and DogsOfHellNYC.com. They currently do not own DogsOfHell.com which was an expired domain name auction at GoDaddy when I checked.
Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. has registered the domain names Mafia3TheGame.com, MafiaiiiTheGame.com, MafiaThree.com and MafiaThreeTheGame.com
Viacom International Inc. registered the domain name SurvivingScream.com
AFLAC has acquired the domain name OneDayPay.com according to whois records. The domain has been registered since February 12, 2006 and was owned by The Tiger Tech at GoDaddy prior to going into whois privacy at Dynadot on April 9, 2015 and on June 24, 2015 the domain was transferred to MarkMonitor displaying AFLAC.
RefineOneStep.com, .net and .info have been registered by a currently unknown MarkMonitor client using DnStination Inc. in whois records.
Intuit Inc. acquired the start-up Zero Paper from Brazil in January 2015 and ZeroPaper.com has now transferred ownership to them. You can read more about the acquisition here from TechCrunch.com.
Vonage Marketing LLC has taken ownership of the domain name ForgetYourPin.com from a Telesphere Networks LTD of Scottsdale Arizona. The domain has been registered since September 24, 2014.
ScentAir Technologies, Inc. has registered the domain names Scent-It-Forward.com and ScentItForward.com. Since “Scent” also sounds like “Sent” or “Cent” that often results in a failed radio test and those spellings are often a good idea to own as potential typo errors.
Plantronics, Inc. registered the domain names BackBeatFit.com, BackBeatPro.com and BackBeatSense.com adding to its 800+ other domain names, one of which is not BackBeat.com which is owned by DigiMedia.
Axalta Coating Systems has acquired the domain name Syrox.com with the help of NetNames. The domain name was owned by BuyDomains.com.
Here.com which is owned by Nokia and has been in the news a lot lately with rumors of it potentially selling…. has changed hosting providers. Is this potentially a clue? The domain changed name servers from l.ns.nsatc.net (Level 3 Communications) to ns1.dynect.net (Dynamic Network Services, Inc.)
There are currently 3 domain names on the IP Address and those are: Here.com, Traffic.com and Plazes.com. All are owned by Nokia currently according to whois records.
To note: there is an active listing on Sedo.com for Here.com but it is not clear when or who the listing belongs to. The country of origin is Barbados and the seller has been a Sedo member since May 2014. There have been 2 offers made on the domain name since it was listed.
GoDaddy has sold the following domain names out of its Marchex domain name portfolio: HumanError.com, BetterMail.com, BidRight.com, ModelEmpire.com, SchoolArts.com, SunBeats.com and TranslateNow.com. The domains continued with BikeService.com, MicroServices.com, Lull.com, PhysicallyFit.com, Wholehearted.com and WorkHere.com.
Wrangler Apparel Corp. has acquired the domain name CoolVantage.com and registered CoolVantage.net. The .com has some interesting things in it… 1.) The domain was registered only about a year ago on April 25, 2014 and displayed a John D’Arcy and email of chloe@chloedarcy.com . By May 1, 2014 whois changes to Simon D’Arcy with an email address of domains@consultnames.com . On or about August 4, 2014 the domain name is listed with DomainNameSales.com.
On March 27, 2015 the domain name CoolVantage.net is registered at GoDaddy under whois privacy.
Several whois records are created at DomainTools.com on March 26, 27, 30.
May 21, 2015 whois changes on CoolVantage.com to a TBL Licensing LLC (Timberland) with an email address of vfc_domain_admin@vfc.com and the domain transfers to MarkMonitor out of GoDaddy.
June 2, 2015 Wrangler Apparel Corp. is displayed in whois for CoolVantage.com and by June 18, 2015 CoolVantage.net displays Wrangler.
Google Inc. has been registering some “odd” domains as I have been reporting lately, like TurtleHelmets.com and now it continues with PuppyScrubbers.com. The domain was registered November 12, 2013 and under privacy with DreamHost and is now transferred to MarkMonitor displaying Google Inc. as the owners of the domain name.
I only report what I see, so your guess is as good as mine as to the reason behind the domain.
Etsy Inc. has registered the domain name ProductAsCraft.com adding to its domain name portfolio of 300+ domain names.
ITG Brands, LLC has taken ownership of the domain name Kool.com from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. “On July 15, 2014, Reynolds American (R.J. Reynolds parent company) agreed to purchase the Lorillard Tobacco Company for $27.4 billion and as a result, (to alleviate antitrust concerns) Winston, along with the KOOL, Blu, Maverick, and Salem cigarette brands was sold to Imperial Tobacco Group for $7.1 billion.” according to Wikipedia.org.
American Council on Education (Pearson) has won the domain name GEDonline.com in a UDRP. An Amy Reichenberger of Pearson appears in whois on June 24, 2015 when the domain came out of privacy protection at Fabulous.com and being parked with DomainNameSales.com. The domain has been registered since June 27, 1998 and has since transferred to CSC Corporate domains. The UDRP status date of June 1, 2015 shows the domain “Transferred” which means it was won by the filer.
A UDRP was filed on OnlineGED.com by Pearson and won on June 26, 2015.

Anyone know how much TheOpening.com sold for?

Lol at people who waste money registering domain names and are non-responsive to UDRPs; the case of GEDonline.com and OnlineGED.com
Excerpt from the UDRP:
“The ged.com domain name was registered in 1995 and was obtained by ACE in November of 2013. ACE first registered the gedtestingservice.com domain name in 2011 and has continuously maintained the registration for gedtestingservice.com since that time.”
ACE bought the GED.com domain from another party in 2013 — who once bought it for $150k, but filed a UDRP for the .net and the two other domains mentioned in this post.
The fact that they paid for the .com is evident enough they have no legal or trademark rights to the domain name and the ones referenced herein. Moreover, there are hundreds of meanings associated with the GED acronym.
But due to the bias nature of most UDRPs, domainers should learn from the pros (like BuyDomains) and stop parking domain names that contain terms that may otherwise conflict with the mark of others. This way, complainant will be unable to claim “use in bad faith due to ads linking to competitors”.
BuyDomains, to my knowledge, does not park their domains with ads, but rather a sales landing page. So I can only imagine they have very little to no UDRPs, or have a higher success rate in domain disputes due to this factor alone. Of course, there are other factors to take into consideration, but the type of ads on parked pages can hurt ones chances of winning a UDRP.
Finally, I will say it again like I have always said; a UDRP is not the last resolution to a domain dispute. If you value your domain asset, be ready and willing to battle it out in court, even if it’s a hassle.
