fTLD Registry Services the registry behind the new gTLD .Bank announced today that it received over 700 domain name registrations during Sunrise period by trademark holders at a cost of $750+ per registration.
General Availability (GA) for the gTLD .BANK will open on June 24, 2015 for all eligible members of the banking industry.
fTLD was created to manage the .BANK domain with the support of a coalition of banks, insurance companies and financial services trade associations from around the world. Among them include The American Bankers Association, Financial Services Roundtable, and Fifth Third Bank.
Only verified members of the global banking community are eligible to register domains. For banks it includes charter verification with the registrant’s regulator. Please see the .BANK Registrant Eligibility Policy for complete eligibility requirements.
.BANK is unlike any other web offering available to date. A .BANK domain signifies that your organization has been verified as legitimate and is committed to implementing security requirements that go beyond existing standards.
Symantec is .BANK’s verification agent and Architelos is providing security software to monitor for domain name abuse schemes including phishing, distribution of malware, use of botnets and spamming.
The cost of a .Bank registration is much higher than a normal domain as you would expect and prices like all domain names vary registrar to registrar.
101domain.com retail price for a .bank registration is $925 including an application fee.
Encirca.com seems to be charging $999 per registration.
