A lot of people in the domain world miss Rick Schwartz since he retired.
His “Biggest Fan” who writes onlinedomain.com openly stated last week he was eagerly waiting for a new post from Rick on RicksBlog.com.
The Domain King remains retired but of course he still owns a lot of domain names and gets offers to which he responds to.
Rick shared with me an exchange he had with a someone about a domain name he owns over the weekend, Flaunting.com
What follows, with Rick’s permission is the email exchange in which Rick schooled the inquirer in classic Domain King style.
We will refer to the person who inquired about the domain as the buyer, although clearly in this case there was no sale:
Buyer: What is the price of Flaunting.com?
RS: $500,000
Buyer: hahahahahahahha
RS: Sorry you can’t afford it.
Buyer: it’s not worth it of course, Flaunts.com is $1,900 dollars
RS: Not any more, I just bought it, Thanks!
Personally I hate when people write me about a domain I own and then use other domain names for sale to try to bring down the price of my domain.
If a buyer equally loves the other domain they found, that is much cheaper why would they write to me and not just buy the other domain.
Reason
They lie.
Yes, Rick Schwartz is alive and well and still schooling them up and giving them hell.

It happened the same to me as well many times, they always try to fool you with those laughable tricks … lol
Rick strikes again! 🙂

Joe A says
Looks like he did from here!
Jamie Zoch says
Good stuff!
Michael Berkens says
Confirmed with Rick I have a copy of the receipt now the issue is why hasn’t DNS taken down the sales page when the domain was purchased two days ago?
Paul says
lnteresting
Paul says
This is an eye opener for me..same thing happened to me about MarijuanaCapsule dot com…after i told him my price, the so called buyer told me he is no longer interested that MarijuanaCapsules dot com has been dropped and is for $20..i told him he is lucky to get it..i also told him that MarijuanaMarket dot com will soon drop he should wait to get it…I finally told him he does not look like one who wants to buy a domain name.
From this article it seems to me this is their new way to price down domain or what…this is crazy.
Thanks to thedomains dot com and domain king.
This is why i always read articles and posts here.honestly i have learn alot.
Max says
@Paul that was some good advice to hand out for free… try and sign them as a client for domain acquisition consulting =)
On the other hand, I watch the drops daily (w/ my morning tea) and regularly am able to add the plural or singular of a name that I already have; imho, if they’re not worth buttressing then they’re likely flotsam and can be dropped themselves!
Bill kara says
That’s hilarious, hope he comes back to blogging
Logan says
Now Rick shows up under WHOIS. When I went to the page, the price was only $1,725.
Max says
Perhaps the message there is: all roads lead to R… =)

Yesterday, Morgan Linton mentioned MHB tweeted a $50K sale over the weekend that he bought a month before for $1K. What is that domain, MHB?
Most other domainers would’ve sold in the $5-10K range including myself.
Scott Alliy says
“Not any more” classic Rick love it!
Jide says
I love the reply, classic and hilarious
John says
Great story-very funny. The buyer learned a good lesson i’d say.
Jay says
haha Rick Schwartz scored a 1, 2 KO. nice

Good stuff! Not sure if Rick studies martial arts, but I still call him Sifu Rick cuz he’s been my domain teacher since day one.
SBasu says
for my PROTONMAIL.IN got an offer form €200….said my price…said UNREALISTIC…. MY DOMAIN…MY PRICE….
Barry Garner says
Just to put a different spin on it… This could have also been a very clever ploy by the “inquirer” to attract Rick to purchase the domain “Flaunts.com”, just a thought guys! 😉
Domain Shame says
If only Frank Schilling didn’t already own it.
Together TV says
Now THAT would be funny…doubtful it happened, but interesting possibility
Michael Berkens says
Barry
Definitely some out of the box thinking
Gordon says
ROFLMAO I’ve done that more than once to a buyer who shot off his mouth!
It’s always the guys that do that I’ve never had a woman take that approach.
Michael Berkens says
Well Rick is asking $500K for the longer domain and knowing Rick he will sell flaunts.com for $xxx, xxx figures or will die with it, either way he has $9M in his pocket for porno.com i + candy.com + property.com + the rest
I don’t think Rick is going to lose 1M of sleep over a $2K purchase
Konstantinos Zournas says
I am not Rick’s biggest fan. Clearly this title goes to the one with the 100s comments on one of Ricks lasts posts. 🙂
But we are missing an important voice in domaining.
Having more voices is better for the industry whether you agree with them or not.
Luis Zamora says
Now we know who the “buyer” was !
Josh says
OR….. did the “buyer” just sell Rick a $1900 domain lol 😉
Luis Zamora says
Good thinking, after all the “buyer” ended to be the “seller”; and tricked Rick into buying his domain flaunts.com. Now who “schooled” who? Rick may be now stuck with two useless domains !
John says
🙂

Expecting more to come from Rick…

We all know Ricks not really retired. He’s just on an extended vacation buying and selling from a cabana somewhere on his laptop. 😉
Together TV says
FU**ING EPIC! Wow…
Eric Borgos says
Classic Rick Schwartz stuff. Good to hear from him again, even second-hand.
joeray says
I had someone offered to sell me a domain that was almost the same as one I owned, so I did a whois search and found it was available for the reg fee, I bought it.
Ruben says
Great move! 🙂
Michael Berkens says
According to domaintools.com the seller appears to have been Internet REIT, Inc. (IREIT) which for those that are new to the business built and bought domain names into a large portfolio which are all for sale at DNS.
They are not the person who attempted to buy the domain, I have the emails
Chris Campbell says
“Sorry you can’t afford it.”
Nice…
I think this is my new go to response…I am serious….
