This is so messed up. Hoarding for higher prices. Where is the customer choice?
ICANN needs to wake up now!

Michael, how about a sunrise alternative for trademark holders? Are they out off luck/options? (e.g. 3M.company)
janedoe says
If I recall, sunrise is potentially shit out of luck.
It is based on time…
Watching a number of donuts extensions, sunrise had their chance during initial release and then after sunrise, the option for registration was removed till now.
So sunrise (should have) had their chance already.
At this point it is an option donuts could offer, but I do not think they are obliged to offer. It comes down to timing of release, if the collision lists are opened before or after the claims period.
(Been to long since I read up on it though)
SoFreeDomains says
You are right. Sunrise had already had their chance.
Christopher hofman says
According to Donuts “One and two character DPML terms are not permitted”, so it’s open hunting season for 2 character brands such as BP or 3M

Where did this email come from ??

Thanks for the blog post, Mike. In reply to the concern that these names were “hoarded,” that’s not the case. The names were withheld by ICANN to address concerns about a technical issue referred to as “name collision” (e.g., potential leakage of traffic between public and private networks). This issue has been resolved and the names were cleared to be released. This is why Donuts is making them available. And as a reminder, Sunrise has already concluded for these gTLDs.
