According to whois records, GoDaddy’s newly acquired domain name Beijing.com which it acquired with the $28 Million purchase of Marchex domain name portfolio has been sold! Update: GoDaddy has confirmed the sale (see below)
The domain Beijing.com has changed registrants this morning to a Ivy Wong at eName Technology Co.,Ltd
Beijing is the capital of China with a population of over 21 million people.
Denver.com sold for a confirmed “seven figure deal” in 2012.
Korea.com sold for $5 Million in 2000
There have been several publicly reported GEO domain name sales in the seven figures and I see this one ranking with them if the price is ever reported.
The domain name is resolving to domain name broker George Hong’s Guta.com, so I have reached out to George to see if he sold the domain or has any details of the transaction but he was unable to comment. That is a common response when a non-disclosure agreement is in place.
I have also reached out to GoDaddy to see if they can share any details and will update this breaking story when or if I hear back.
Update: Paul Nicks from GoDaddy has confirmed the sale of Beijing.com. He did state that George had a hand in the transaction but can not disclose the price paid on the domain but stated “everyone is happy how it turned out”.
Really great domain name and congrats go out to both the buyer, George and GoDaddy!
todd says
It sold fast which means it sold cheap.
Jamie Zoch says
Todd, just because GoDaddy recently took ownership of the domain doesn’t mean it sold “cheap”. Sometimes it simply takes the right partnership of bringing buyer/seller together and it sounds like George helped with this process!
todd says
I disagree. Marchex had this name for years and I am sure received multiple offers and it didn’t sell but Godaddy has it for a month and it does sell. This is a multi-million dollar name not some $20,000 name. Whoever was in charge of buying the portfolio is using this sale to prove that he made a good decision in buying the portfolio. What better way to justify your job than to sell a name for a substantial amount of money a month after you bought it.

yeah every entrepreneur should have to go through months of grinding negotiations before they can get started
Paul Nicks says
Can confirm it was sold but the price will remain private. Big props to George Hong who knows his stuff and was an awesome partner.

Paul where can we get the list to take a look at. We always made 5 or 10k offer on names at marchex but they always where in 50k range, do you have a master list or link. thanks
Paul Nicks says
Hey Donny, we’re still working on the BIN pricing. Shoot me an email paul@godaddy and I’ll see if I can get you a current list

And here is the great flaw of the domain industry building real estate which is far more important to the world than any domain name are all public record. people can see who bought a bungalow or who bought a mansion but in this business everybody likes to keep everything so secretive.
Tom says
It’s listed for sale on his website at the moment.
Jamie Zoch says
Tom, the buyers just have not updated dns yet as this is a very fresh sale (aka, yesterday/this morning)
Alan Dodd says
The price on afternic they were looking for was $3,000,000 unless I am very much mistaken. I would say $2.4m.
Let’s just say generally prices on Afternic they are setting have…increased since this sale…
Thomas says
We made a one million USD offer last year for Beijing.com and the quote we got from Marchex was 3 million USD. Wonder what it was sold for…
SoFreeDomains says
We need to get to the root of the amount involved in this deal. The information is very essential for those of us in the industry.
Alan Dodd says
Actually, $2.4m guesstimate has to be incorrect. It could never be that – it is of course $2,388,888 :0)
Allen Lee says
It is said that the selling price of Beijing.com was 6 million USD
Allen Lee says
Correction –
Some people on NamePros.com says the selling price of beijing.com is around 6 million ~ 7 million USD
