There is a rift between Move Inc. and the National Association of Realtors, Inman.com reports that associations will not be able to display or even link to property listings on a .Realtor domain. So far there are about 96,000 .Realtor registrations.
From the article:
Come May 7, U.S. and Canadian brokerages and associations who want to make sure their home on the Web reflects their Realtor affiliation will be able to claim their own .realtor URL.
But associations won’t be able to link to or display property listings at that URL — something many, if not most, currently do on their websites.
That’s because a noncompete clause in the realtor.com operating agreement between Move Inc. and the National Association of Realtors prohibits NAR from directly or indirectly engaging in the electronic display of listings to the public.
That restriction and others may limit the appeal of the new .realtor domain for NAR’s 1,400 or so local and state associations, some of which have their property search function front and center on their current website.

Exactly right. chaos within the industry, .realtor is really junk. What is a realtor? someone who has a certain designation really nothing of value. 1,400 association left out in left field. Restricted tlds. Isn’t this what Jennifer wolfe was talking about? Limited appeal and market acceptance. Let NAR reveal the facts .realtor recurring usage. A house is resold every 7 yrs. HOW MANY SELLERS GO BACK AND USE THE SAME REALTOR?

By “Associations”, do you mainly mean real estate brokerages?

Crazy, it kind of defeats the whole point of wanting to invest in the extension. Such limitations will only hurt the extension and potentially lead to it’s demise.
