Dot Webstie hits the 50,000 registration mark
Radix released some stats about one of their strings today, Dot Website went over 50,000 regs, they did actually give my OnlineCasino.website sale a mention. To be fair it was not for a huge amount but profit is profit (non premium registation of $14.99). I have mentioned that .website was a generic string that I have speculated in, for full disclosure I do own one other .website domain. I think it was important for Radix to win .site so that they own both generic strings and have some continuity within that keyword dynamic.
Stats:
In less than seven months since its general availability, Dot website has crossed 50,000 registrations.
Dot website had the third highest score on the New gTLD Indicator in the most recent CSC New gTLD Utilization Report and has consistently been among the Top 10 fastest growing new TLDs. With less than 46 % of these 50k domains being parked and 120 dot websites in the Alexa Top 1 million (98.7th percentile or 6th highest among new TLDs), there is good end consumer adoption for this generic TLD.
This adoption is seen across geography; some such examples of live websites – 3arab.website (Arabic), amaze.website, customkitchen.website, discjockey.website (Dutch), jsa.website (Russian). Number of registrations across countries for dot website is in the 99th percentile – 160 countries (4th highest).
A key metric that has contributed to the success of dot website is its channel partnership; the total number of registrars currently offering dot website is 103, which is in the 99.7th percentile (second highest among all new TLDs).
Raymond Hackney recently reported his first new TLD sale – onlinecasinos.website that made him a cool profit of almost 60x, a domain bought for $14.99 and sold for $888.
This addresses any concerns some may have had regarding the prospects of generic new TLDs; if it is a good, meaningful extension, it will be successful.
