For those domain investors out there that have a big chunk of education related domains, especially online education, the latest news out of University of Phoenix may be of interest. Enrollment is on the decline.
Enrollment at America’s largest for-profit university was about 460,000 students five years ago. Now it’s 213,000.
From CNN Money:
What happened: Apollo’s fast fall is another sign of the decline in for-profit education. Last July, one of Apollo’s former competitors, Corinthian Colleges, shuttered its doors. In 2012, the University of Phoenix closed 115 of its campuses.
Once a cash cow industry, for-profit education companies have struggled to overcome criticism of the quality of its education and the costs. They’re the sore spot in the national debate about value of higher education.
For-profit colleges only enroll roughly 12% of the country’s students, but students at for-profit colleges accounted for about half of student loan defaults in 2013, according to federal data.
On a call with analysts Wednesday, Apollo noted that default rates at the University of Phoenix have actually declined significantly in recent years.
But the headwinds continue for for-profit institutions in the U.S. Last March, the Obama administration proposed new limitations on federal aid doled out to for-profit colleges.

potential students have given up knowing now that “clown” will not be getting them a job having a degree anyway – certainly in the next 2 years or so.
Very sad the bullshit young people bought into

“potential students have given up knowing now that “clown” will not be getting them a job having a degree anyway”. I’m sorry, it’s probably just me, but this is utterly nonsensical to me …for myself and the other simpletons out there, can you clarify what is it you are trying to say?

Stanford just had its highest undergraduate application pool ever.

If I was hiring somebody and there were two candidates that I thought were pretty similar, the one that went to a real university would definitely have the edge in my eyes.

The university with a better reputation would be even better than “real” university

Of course… Harvard/Princeton/MIT > Univ. of Wisconsin/Iowa/Michigan etc. > Univ. of Phoenix

Hello MHB,
Formal Education is trumped by Business Intuition. The only education you need to know is the following Gem :
We have an important Educational nuanced hint :
The important point to make is that there is a clear ( Demand Driven ) trend towards ccTLD conversions to .COMS .
This ( Demand Driven ) Trend is increasing at an exponential rate. ( FOLLOW THE MONEY ) and buy the next logical step for this voracious Demand Driven Trend = 2letters, 3letters, 4letters, 5letters, 6letters, ETC.
China is leading the pack to .COM extension Supremacy, for now and India is coming on strong according to our Analytics.

Officers and gentlemen (and gentlewomen) generally have university degrees. However, more to the point, do you really think that formal education and business intuition are mutually exclusive?
Several of the people I went to university with ran lucrative businesses WHILE at university. Organizing charter flights, doing tax returns and setting up dating businesses (based on programs they’d run on IBM 360/60s in the uni computing centre.

So, If there are less students applying that means that each lead is more valuable, hence good news 🙂

The only way the University of Phoenix has anything to do with investing in education domains is if you are investing in typos of University of Phoenix.

I unfortunately was one of the people who bought into the UoP nonsense. While I have no defaulted on my loans and will do everything I can to not do that, I am very disappointed. I went to UoP because I am/was working full time, and actually at the time I enrolled I was working 2 jobs just trying to make it, living by myself, etc. It seemed like the answer to what I needed, just hang in there a few more years while I attend school. WRONG. I have been graduated for 3 years now and have applied for several jobs and have only gotten called for 1 interview. They made it sound all wonderful, and I should have know it too good to be true. Good luck to other UoP graduates out there.

Online education is going gangbusters, and you can’t look at one institution and draw a conclusion of the entire education sector.
