Just a little over 2 months after launching out of Beta, Google new domain name registrar Google Domains is showing as the number one organic entry under Google when you search for the term “domains” replacing registrars like Godaddy.co,, Network Solutions.com, 1and1.com, NameCheap.com and Domain.com
Google Domains is also ranking organically, number 2 under the term “domain registrar” number 4 for the term “domain” number 6 for the term “domain registrars”
Not bad for a site that just launched two months ago.
The actual website of Google’s Domain name registrar is https://domains.google.com , although as we have noted before Google owns GoogleDomains.com as well as the new gTLD Google.Domains
GoogleDomains.com forwards to the subdomain that Google is using for the registrar but the domain name Google.Domains is not even being forward to the registrar, it does not resolve although the domain is on Google Servers:
Here is the search results for the term “domains” on Yahoo:
Here is how it looks on Bing:
Of course the point is that no other search engine is ranking Google Domains and pretty much anyone who has ever done SEO or had a website would tell you its pretty unusually for a two month old site to rank on the first page of Google for any well searched term and maybe a record setter for ranking number one.
Lets also point out that the results page for the term “Domains” is full of ads both under the search term and on the right side down the page showing you just how competitive that term is for domain registrars and others in the space to get one the first page of.

Starting at 12 dollars Go Daddy has them beat already

Not surprising at all.
It’s a monopolist operator … what should you expect from them …
Anyone remember AT&T in the 80s, at that time telecoms were like the web today, they were the “new stuff” …
That’s one of the reasons why Google should be broken up, search engines operations on one side, and advertising business on the other side, opening the door to other competitors in the Ad business.
Otherwise Google will keep accumulating cash from its monopolistic operations, always having the last word in terms of ad pricing (and consumers keep paying higher pricing than those there could be with a healthy and fair competition), and investing them in other businesses, like those conglomerates in the 80s, 90s and before …

I am sure they hired a good SEO 🙂

Hello MHB,
How do you suppose Google will continue to use their monopoly power over the DNS ? This is just the beginning of the end.

Michael-you’re a very bright guy-where did you expect them to be on page 10? lol (thanks for this great blog of yours)

They should be “Pandalized”. Is there any forum where this practice can be reported if it is not legit.

Remember where Chrome was 5 years ago? How long did it take Google to bring it from zero to hero? Let us take more pop corn and the giants fight.
Here, in the U.K., where google domains were not launched, yet, it is still GoDaddy, GoDaddy et al in the top 10 “organical.ly” ranked results.

Hello MHB,
Google is delighted to have the GTLD hordes flood the DNS plarform. It creates the perfect storm for Google to wrench control away from ICANN and in effect control the DNS. This strategy subverts DNS Neutrality, which in turn allows Google to maintain and pepetuate their Monopolistic Grip on the lions share of DNS Traffic. JAS 3/13/15
The worlds top watchdog Organizations are on high alert as to whether Googles Usage of the New GTLD will aid and abett Googles Monopolistic strangle hold on the DNSs Nuetrality.

Just search “Analytics”, Google has the #1 result set as their own product. It’s what you do when you have a monopoly over search. The funny thing is that if Bing just made their algorithm better, we would actually have a choice between search engines. It only takes a few months and a choice for the tide of public usage to change. #MySpace.

I said it before, and i will say it again. Google is evil. I have predicted that google will give priority to their own domains as they launch them. Those domains will rank better then other similar domains. Likely for what ever nitches they will be targeting. Since it would be too obious, they will also likely give priority ranking to the city gtlds simply because they can support the fact they are not monopolizing, and they only creating “fair value”. I will be surprised if that wont happen. They will say that they need to filter for everyone. hence all the current big tlds will do fine but for specific areas we will see boosts in ranking for local extensions and google .

It’s stuff like that, that turns me off to using a service. Bunch of BS.

No its not shocking or manipulation by google. Any good SEO expert can tell you that domains.google.com has got more turst and domain authority than Domain.com ( this website is at #2)
IF you create a new website and want to get it ranked for even the toughest keyword, you can rank it. Google does not consider age of domain/site as ranking factor.
Google is a very big company and always draw huge media attentions from the world best and biggest media houses.
Here is a comparison metrics of domains.google.com with domain.com
Domain.com
Trust Flow – 16
Citation Flow – 33
External Backlink – 3545
Referring Domains – 409
domains.google.com
Trust Flow – 29
Citation flow – 36
External Backlinks – 6553
Referring Domains – 386
You can see google domains has got more trust flow , citation flow and External backlinks as compared to domain.com

Google is just using their distribution channel well, and no one can do anything about that. They will make more billions of dollars.

Is it unusual for a two-month-old product to rank well in Google? I don’t think so. It’s not a new site, it’s a new product on an already well-established, authoritative site.
And yes, they did their SEO right. They named their product “Google Domains” that has their main keyword in it. And they have more anchor text links with that keyword than any other site.

Will Google favor domains bought from them in the search engine?

It wouldn’t take much for competitors to interrogate keywords, especially long tail used by google domains to install into their system to gain seo traction. Ride on their backs.
