The domain name RSL.com has been sold to the profession MLS Soccer Team “Real Salt Lake” which uses the domain name RealSaltLake.com
Aron Meystedt the Director of the Intellectual Property Department of Heritage Auctions brokered the domain and gave some details of how he sold the domain which is a good lesson I think for all of us that are brokering domain names for third parties:
“A client emailed with the name RSL.com for sale.”
They wanted a really low price for it, but I knew we could do better.
I told them I would put the name out there at $45,000 — still a good buy for and end user… but a fair price for the seller
(considering names like MNB.com have sold for ½ of that recently).
I reached out to the owners of the MLS team, Real Salt Lake. They passed on the opportunity.
I then reached out, again…
I described how owning, and using, RSL.com would be a home run for the team.
RealSaltLake.com is long, (honestly frustrating to type… I just mistyped it actually) and RSL.com is a great URL for
your fans, franchise etc.
I described how using the shorter HA.com (instead of HeritageAuctions.com) has been great for growth for our auction company.
Basically, their next response was “we’ll take it”.
So, the sale and transfer is completed… and I assume RSL.com will point to RealSaltLake.com soon.
Pretty neat.
Sale to a professional sports team.””
Congrats to Aron

RSL.com is a really nice combo. Great deal for the end user imo – the domain owner could have got six figs one day to the right user.
