Domain investor and the one of the creators of DomainTools.com, Jay Westerdal’s company Fegistry, LLC just won the rights to the new gTLD .Forum beating Donuts & Famous Four.
Fegistry won an ICANN Last Resort auction for the new gTLD .Realty
ICANN auction results are public information, so we know that Fegistry paid $5.6 million for .Realty
However .Forum, which was scheduled for an ICANN auction later this month, was settled privately so the amount it sold for in the auction is unknown.
According to its application, Fegistry will use .Forum to “create a recognizable, viable, and profitable extension to bring together individuals and companies who are passionate about self-identifying with forum. There are thousands of forums on the Internet and a registrant can create a website that identifies itself directly in the TLD.
It seems fitting, as ICANN opens up an unprecedented and innovative program to expand how we use and identify with the Internet, that use cases like .forum should be allowed as well.
We are creating the opportunity for internet users to identify websites that operate as forums by looking just at the TLD. By owning a domain in the .forum community it creates a win-win for most companies because they don’t need to identify to the left of the dot they are a forum.”

congrats Jay
Probably one of the top 20% TLDs I would say.
That said – I still do not get it when you consider so many just use twitter facebook wordpress…
but then again you had the foresight to start domaintools.
I am sure you will make this a winner
