The .Global new gTLD registry just launched a cash back program to give people who register 10 or more .Global Domain names a cash back bonus of $25 per domain.
“This is a limited time offer only available between Friday 23th of January and Saturday 31st of January.”
For details on how to apply for the cashback, please click here.
It doesn’t matter which registrar that sells .global registrations you use to get the cash back bonus.
The $25 per domain will be sent by the registry to your paypal account.
Of course there are a bunch of terms and conditions, may of which are there to protect the registry from getting scammed.
This is the first time I have seen a domain name registry giving customers cash back and will be interested to see how this turns out.
According to ntldstats.com .Global has about 8,200 domain registrations.

Although I don’t have any .Global domains myself, this seems like one of the most unique marketing ploys by a registry, to date.
It reminds me of back in the day; unless they still do it of course, of having to peel off a sticker, cut out the bar code, get your receipt and highlight the transaction, put it in an envelope and send it off to the manufacturer to get $1+ back.
Surely will be interesting to see how this goes.

I just did a search for a random name
djdjdj.global it came back at $69.99 via dynadot so if I rebate back $25, I am still paying $44.99 for the cheapest registration price.
With other registries like .country at $1, .club in the $8 range, even .click is like $5 paying almost 10X as much.
I then tried to register Mortgage.Global it was taken, I inputed Morgages.Global and it came back with Premium $6,000 owned by the registry.
ATTENTION registries time for a reality check here, there are 1500 extensions coming online, as much as you want to believe more online users coming online, not all need, or want a DOMAIN name. Let’s get realistic with pricing, good marketing but $25 back on a $70 annual domain purchase is like you mugging me, then giving me bus money to get home.

Hi Mike
As the head of .GLOBAL, I would like to give you some counter arguments to your points. I believe you raise good points, and argue well for them, but that doesn’t mean that you are right about your conclusion.
Lets first discuss the cashback rebate. If you pay $69.99 and get $25 in cashback, thats 35% off. And you can get that cashback for every year you wish to register the name for in this promotion. So if you plan to not flip the domain during year 1, it could be a great value to get more years discounted in the form of cashback as well, by choosing a longer registration term.
Then we should look at the price point for .GLOBAL compared to other new TLDs. The fact is that there is a big range in pricing now, ranging from “free” to over $100. Our price point is in the middle. Prices are trending up, as the industry understands that they cannot expect to reach the high target registration numbers we were dreaming of. At least for some years.. We believe .GLOBAL provides a good value for the registrants. A name that can take the position of gathering all your other domains with its global entry point effect like we have used .com for. We believe most customers will be businesses and organisations. Giving domains away for free or for $1 or $5 will drive more unwanted usage and domain squatting. Im not against short promos that gives a low entry to boost some usage, but as an ongoing price policy, its wrong for .GLOBAL. We want as clean and safe namespace as possible. A higher price makes for less unwanted usage and domain squatting, and the buyers registers quality domains they really want to keep. We are building a long term brand value with .GLOBAL, and want .GLOBAL to be the number one alternative to .com .net and .org for businesses and organisations. A domain customers will be proud to own. Our user base is growing in a healthy pace. We have a high demand for premium domains. In total we perform financially better than most new TLDs according to the statistics we have seen. That is some evidence of how the market look at the value of .GLOBAL domains. I believe that a very low price point can be a good idea if a TLD is mainly targeting consumers. But only for TLDs that have a target group of customers that will end up in paid renewals well above a million domains within the next 5 years.
Your example of djdjdj.global might not make it look like a domain worth paying a lot for. Other free to register examples are: credits.global, painball.global, skateboard.global, helicopter.global and espresso.global. Those domains could be worth it, right?
You write that mortgages.global is a premium domain valued at $6.000. Its currently available through Afternic and some of their network partners. Mortgage.global is a premium domain currently available through the registry. It´s not taken. These are great names that can have a high value for businesses in that sector who targets a global audience.
To your reality check: Of the 1500 new TLDs, “only” about 700 will be available to register for the general Internet user. The rest are brands/closed or community TLDs. We believe we have a realistic pricing for .GLOBAL. Giving you $25 back on a $69.99 registration isn’t anything close to mugging you. Its a great deal, and you should take it, and start by registering my above examples today. With those names held by you, you could have a future in a sports car instead of the bus 😉

I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback, but I feel the rebate is in place as you reach 8,000 names you are stalling out, and need to get something to restart before the better extensions are released into 2015.
I need to spend $700 before I am eligible for any rebates, which is good in getting numbers, but I can’t see many people willing to spend $450 to register 10 .global’s.. You should be in the $15-25 range today. I think many of the registries will end up landing around $10-$15 eventually, the domainers are burnt out, they aren’t buying in anymore. WORLD was very well received priced at $23.99, and it is stalling out at 7500 registrations, and it is very generic. 1 year ago this extension would have 25,000 registrations by now.
The Promotion
A Registrant must register and pay for a minimum of 10 .GLOBAL second level domain names to qualify for the Cashback Promotion.

Hi Mike
.GLOBAL is nowhere near stalling. But you are right that many TLDs are stalling after their launch phase. You can trust our dedicated team to be active with marketing and activities to continue the growth.
This particular cashback promotion is aimed at existing or new domain investors, and not the regular buyer who in average would buy 2-3 .GLOBAL domains. I dont think the domainers are burnt out. I believe we will see much more domainers in the future. The women will be more active in this round, unlike in the 90´s where it was mostly men investing in domains.
Do you really believe all TLDs will end up in the $10-15 range? This is not a regulated market anymore when it comes to pricing. But it has been for many years. Its no default that all TLDs should end up at the pricing similar to the TLDs with millions of domains. I have been active in this industry since the very beginning, and have been on all sides of the table, as buyer/seller/registrar/brand and now as a registry. My experience tells me that there is a market for quality TLDs aimed at business branding. The cost of a .GLOBAL domain doesn’t weigh much in a business budget, but it certainly gives a lot of value to those who need an online branding that looks good and sends the right descriptive message. If you want your brand to become big, look big or if you are big, then you go.global.
.GLOBAL is a TLD that is great for online branding as an alternative to .com .net and .org. The market is massive when it comes to the need for online global branding. Let´s have a reality check in 5 years, after the awareness has been built.
You are bringing up a topic that is very interesting. If you happen to go to any of the domain events or ICANN meetings, I would love to sit down and have a discussion.
Have a great weekend. With all my writing about domains, I think I need to buy some more 🙂
