Three new gTLD’s went into general availability (GA) yesterday where they could be registered on a first come, first served basis.
Here are the totals after the first day of GA. The totals include all domain names registered by trademark holders in the Sunrise Period and those who paid an extra fee to get early access in a landrush period or in an Early Access Program (EAP). Any domain that received more than one landrush application for the two Geographic extensions (.Vlaanderen; .Brussels) typically do not get added to the zone file until the auction ends and therefore would not be included in these numbers:
.Vlaanderen 3,880
Vlaanderen which translated to Flanders in English, is the community of the Flemings, one of the communities of Belgium, and also a geographical region located in parts of present-day Belgium, France and the Netherlands
The population of the area is around 6,350,765 according to wikipedia.org
.Brussels 3,742 one of my favorite city is relatively small compared to many of the city gTLD’s that have already launed with just some 1.85 million people
.Forsale 2,197 a Rightside extension had a nice EAP total and is now sitting at close to 2,200 registrations.
There will be a new gTLD .sale sometime this year.
