Donuts has won the new gTLD extension .Golf beating out Famous Four Media, TLD Assets which owns the new gTLD .Irish and Jay Westerdal’s Fegistry.
We reported eailer today that Donuts won the new gTLD .Football as well.
The ICANN last resort auction for .Golf was scheduled to take place later this month.
No details about how the string was settled or how much was paid is available.
According to Donuts application
“.GOLF will be very attractive to the many tens of thousands of golfers (professional and amateur), coaches, golf courses, driving ranges, tournaments, golf equipment manufacturers, publishers, distributors and retailers devoted to one of the most popular activities in the world.
There are approximately 60 million amateur golfers worldwide with a strong affinity to the sport who would welcome .GOLF as a means of expression about the game, or as a forum to discuss golf with others.
This TLD would appeal to millions of potential registrants, and we would operate it in a legitimate and secure manner and in the best interests of its registrants and users.”
Certainly in our opinion .Golf of all the sports related domain names has a chance for the largest amount of registrations.
