The domain name registrar, Internet.bs is “releasing a list of 9.5 million .COM names which are currently registered under other TLD spaces yet remain unregistered under .COM.”
According to a press release we received:
“There is so much potential amongst these names for high value .COM domains that have so far gone undiscovered.
The list is being released in stages, beginning today with those domains starting with numbers, through those starting with the letter “H” (over 3.5 Million names!).
“Our final release will be all names under 7 characters in length.”
You can download these lists right now by visiting the download page and we’ll soon be replacing this with an easy to use search tool.
Hurry, this list will not be updated as domains are registered, it was correct at the time of creation; you will need to move quickly to get access to the best .COM names.

I thought this will be a list of domains registered under the new gTLDs but unregistered under .COM. For example, vendor.expert was registered yesterday but vendorexpert.com is available as of now. Such a list will probably be more useful.

After reading this, I found myself once again questioning the viability of the gtld campaign.
The underlying premise of this article is that it is foolish to register a non-.com without also owning the corresponding .com name. I totally agree that this is the case. As such, why would anyone out there of reasonable mind want to register a gtld? I ask this in all seriousness!

A few reasons I can think of:
* .com has long been registered and owner will not sell. Same reason .net is registered even though someone else owns .com version.
* Some keyword1.keyword2 look visually nicer?
* Domain hacks.

…I dunno what demographic you are in, qwerty, but I think that, as ealfert states, some keyword1.keyword2 domain names are indeed much more visually attractive AND easier to remember than a dot com.
I asked what your demographic was because my 13 year-old gamer grandson, along with his friends, are getting quite comfortable with the newer gtld extensions. They are, in essence, growing up with these names and it is only a matter of convenience for them that they see 2 keywords with a dot between it and don’t have to concern themselves with any other extension.
How do you educate the younger generation that dot com is king when they are growing up in a different cyber-environment than we did?
I know for myself that dot com is king but that doesn’t apply to the future, or so it would seem…

Are they “getting comfortable with the newer gtld extensions” because they, as 13-year-olds, hang out on lots of .GURU and .VENTURES websites? Or are the gamer grandson and friends merely looking up from their video games or their Twitter.com or Facebook.com or Instagram.com in order to tell their grandfather what they think he wants to hear?
What generation ever needed to be educated about what’s all around?

I ain’t even in their thought processes as they have their own world(s) to delve in. All I know is that they are being exposed to these extensions at this point in time when a few short years ago none of this existed and they are not intimidated by it one iota. As a matter of fact, it seems to me they just don’t care as long as they get to a site that they want.
I guess any rationale will do. They also know about the .club domain extension for sure, just don’t know how many other extensions they will be exposed to in their travels.

Well, I’d agree with that. If the only place for me to read Coriolanus were Shakespeare.sucks or Shakespeare.ooo, then I’d love those sites and ignore the TLDs. The goal with a TLD is to get consumers to ignore it, in a sense. A good domain is transparent and allows us t navigate confidently to the actual content.
But where are these 13-year-olds coming into contact with new TLDs unless it’s the domainer grandfather who introduces the topic? In the coffee shops where I spend my work days, I’ve had plenty of conversations with young college-age kids (some of whom are programmers and web designers) and they’re usually hearing about these new TLDs for the first time from me. So I’m genuinely curious what media outlets have bypassed their intended audience of small business owners and gone straight for the pre-teen market?

Here is the list of new gTLD sites that are in top 100,000 Alexa list as of yesterday. There are just 102 of them. I know that Alexa is not very accurate but it still is an indicator for sites within the top 100,000. These daily updated Alexa ranks are based on monthly averages and is slightly different from the toolbar rank (which is averaged over 3 months).

The searchengines.guru at 1067 is an old forum that moved to the new domain, it shouldn’t really count as a fresh new gTLD site. I don’t know how many other entries in that list are old sites that moved.

Some of the ICANN pages are not updated in real time. If you check the status of #1545, it is listed as “delegated”.

Interestingly, despite .google having been delegated only 2 months ago (2014-09-09) and containing only 1 domain in its zone file (nic.google), nevertheless this purely typo domain (www.google) ranks at number ”27419″ on the ALEXA list of “top-viewed websites”…

I guess he got this idea of different extensions existing from his teacher. I don’t know for a fact, but I would venture to guess the students are looking for short names that are too expensive for them in dot com and unavailable anywhere else. If it wasn’t gramps(I doubt it was, really) then I think the school system is giving him this info.
Either way, there seems to be a certain conformity with the new tld extensions that even the schools are integrating(perhaps his is one of them)…

A few helpful columns to add to the spreadsheet to filter out some less valuable names. Reduces length of list by about half (I tried with the domains starting with letter “e”).
Detect Numbers:
=COUNT(FIND({0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9},$A2))>0
Detect Hypens:
=COUNT(FIND({“-“},$A2))>0
Remove .com For Easier Reading:
=LEFT($A2,SEARCH(“.”,$A2,1)-1)

It would be interesting to see the list of those xxxxxxtld.com still left unregistered.
