.xyz Is The First New gTLD to Surpass 700,000 Registrations
.xyz is the first new gTLD to surpass 700,000 registrations with 701,495 today, according to nTLDstats.com. Last week, new gTLDs topped 3 million registrations, which .xyz accounts for nearly 23%. Even when subtracting the Network Solutions registrations, .xyz is still the largest with 324,000 domains.
.xyz is doing especially well in China, pulling in 145k from Xin Net and 23k from Todaynic.com. On average, 2,000 registrations each day are coming from China in the last month. Looks like .xyz is also getting mass media coverage as of late: Admin5, ChinaZ, and BearEyes to name a few.
.xyz continues to lead in the number of active sites as well, according to nTLDstats.com’s “Parking” page statistic. The registry’s blog continues to post about live .xyz websites that show the wide range of end users.
At ICANN51, .xyz’s CEO Daniel Negari presented at the Registrar, Registry, and TLD Joint Panel, covering the strategies his registry has taken in order to achieve its massive success. He made his presentation publicly available at gen.xyz/ABC.
