A landrush collision occurs when more than 1 landrush application was submitted for the same .NYC domain name
“Auctions will be held on three different dates to best suit bidders with multiple applications for .nyc domains. Auction dates have been determined by the first letter of the applied for .nyc domain application.
If your .nyc application starts with one of the letters listed below and there were multiple applications, your auction will start on the date specified below.
A – I: October 23 – 27, 2014
J – R: October 28 – 31, 2014
S – Z: November 3 – 6, 2014

the truth hurts says
I think this extension will get a few more reg’s initially becauseit’s short, a bit funky and meaningful. However after the hype has died down a year later inevitably most probably be binned in favor of .com(like the other gTLD’s)

You are wrong truth, there are 2 reasons.
A) NYC government is fully behind this move and they get 40% of every sale
B) New york is biggest local market in USA, which means brands and advertisers can target very specifically new york city with their brand. And its big enough, where even few millions spent on pizza.nyc will pay off quickly. Since New york is seen as trend setter city in many ways.

Third reason, there is 8 variations for new york name. This shortening allows for cutting out a lot of those variations. The only way i see .nyc failing, is if business dont embrace it and government doesn’t continue to promote it. Both seem very unlikely from the reaction business been embracing it, and how much government if pushing it.
