Yesterday we wrote about, .NYC have some registered 2,949 domain names in their Landrush period but also mentioned we knew of more .NYC landrush registrations and expected more once the zone file updated today.

Today there are 1,147 additional Landrush domain registrations and .NYC now sits at 4,549 registrations.

We also stated yesterday and still believe to be true that domains that had more than one trademark application, and that are heading to auction are not included in this total.  I’m expecting based on the numbers there to be at least 1,000 landrush auctions for .NYC domains, but that is just a guess.

We also still see domain names that people told us they got in the landrush that shows up in the whois as registered by are showing as “inactive” so the number of landrush registrations are still higher.

The .NYC zone file is quite unusual and is one of the hardest to work with since there reserved domains on behalf of the city are included as well, but in a way not to count for stats purposes with that in mind  lets take a look at the more interesting .NYC trademark registrations:

Another complication is that the city of New York registered some using the domain name registrar, HELLODOTNYC.COM with domains like BrooklynBridge.com and they are in the active zone file and included in the counts, so I back those out.

Finally one of the biggest abuses of the Trademark Clearing House I have seen in the new gTLD program resulted in the domain name NewYearsEve.NYC  being registered to Holiday Events LLC of New York.  Obviously New Years Eve is New York is one of the biggest events in the world.  I didn’t realize  that the term New Years Eve was owned by one company in the world, they sure can get busy starting to sue the billions of people on earth that use that term.
