.NYC the top level extension for New York now has 3,441 domain name registrations after awarding some 2.900 domain names that were applied during landrush that received only 1 land rush application.
Prior to the Landrush, NYC had just under 500 Sunrise registrations by trademark holders.
The number of LandRush domain names, so far in the zone file, are 2,949 domains.
Any domain that received more than landrush application are off to auction and none of those are included in the totals.
There are also a number of .NYC domain names that were awarded in landrush that are not included in yesterdays zone file, that were sent to me by other domain holders located in New York, so we expect an new total tomorrow when the zone file updates.
My Favorite domain so far that was awarded in landrush with only one application is BrooklynPizza.nyc; congrats to Amy Oztan of Brooklyn for grabbing the gem.
To register a .NYC domain you have to be a resident of New York city or be a business who maintains an office in New York City, no PO Boxes were allowed.
The nexus requirement for .NYC domain owners is ongoing, so if you want to buy a .NYC domain on the aftermarket you will also have to meet the Nexus requirement in order to hold the domain.

As one of the part time domainers who lives in New York, i can say that , good names are going to auction in large quantities. So far i got only answer to 20% of my domains, i registered with 3 registrars, only one registrar have told me (at which i have about 20% of my total registrations) which names i got and which i didnt. Of those 20% I got about 30% names that i wanted, given, i spent 3 weeks extensive research and went for only really solid names. The other 2 i will be getting on monday probably.
I like brookly pizza, but there is many more better ones that will be gotten on first take. I think i got at least 2 names that better then this one so far. My take on it, i dont think many domainers are in it.
This is only based on about 20% of domains, so i will know better by monday.
Cheers.

I take it you have to be an authorized user to view the TLD zone file? Is there any way you can publish or link to the full list of 2900 domains awarded yesterday? The retail registrar I used seems pretty incompetent, their staff has no idea how landrush works so I have no idea what I was approved for or what is going to auction. I’d love to get confirmation by seeing my domain(s) in the zone file

You realize if you put in land rush applications you only need to put in 1 and only at 1 registrar, its not GA where its a race to the gate, so you maybe in auctions against yourself

Ofcouse i realize that, i just found cheaper registrars as i went on registering hence 3 registrars. Its different names for each registrar. Otherwise i would call myself retarded, and not domainer 🙂

Avoid domain.com like the plague! They are completely incompetent with regards to gTLDs. They don’t even have direct access, they’re a 3rd party reseller and are guaranteed to screw up your order

Ya, i was looking at them at some point, but found that they showed all domains as available for .nyc even though other registrars i used prior to that, clearly showed that it was taken. Once i saw that, i went with a different registrars.
How is your domain choices looking? Happy with what you got?
I been studying up on auction model, and i think its kinda shitty. It benefits person with most time on their hands.

Motion – sounds like we’re in similar situations prospecting on these domains. Shoot me an email mlbgecko at yahoo and we can discuss offline
