The City of Las Vegas held a very cool launch ceremony for Dot Vegas at Las Vegas city hall today.
Namescon.Vegas was the very first domain activated by .Vegas after Nic.Vegas (Nic.is the first domain activated by every new gTLD registry)
Richard Lau and and Jothan Franks of Namescon were on hand to celebrate the launch, who appears in the picture on top of the post.
Mike McLaughlin from Godaddy spoke about their current campaign and excitement over .Vegas, which is currently prominently displayed on the Godaddy.com homepage as “The one thing about Vegas you wont wake up regretting.”
Russ White, former Apple.com and itunes webmaster who owns and operates Vegas magazine spoke about Gay.Vegas for the LGBT community.
8newsnow.com covered the ceremony and reported this about the event and the .Vegas launch
Attorney Brock Ohlson who bought the domain name Lawyers.Vegas was also on hand “Born and raised in Vegas, I knew that .vegas was going to be a tremendous success,” Ohlson said.
In a special proclamation, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman declared Tuesday .Vegas day.
“To have a domain with our name that’s known worldwide is the most exciting marketing piece we’ve had in years. This is awesome!” Goodman said.
The city will get 10% of all new and renewal registrations for .vegas domain names.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to bring an income stream to us,” Goodman said.
Many casinos, nightclubs and attractions pre-registered their .vegas domain names. But .vegas domains are now available for anyone, anywhere in the world.
“It’ll actually reach billions,” President and CEO of .vegas inc. Jim Trevino said (pictured below)
“If you had to pay for this kind of advertising, you couldn’t pay one-tenth of one percent for exposure because every computer in the world now, it will show up in their URL if they’re using a .vegas address,” Trevino said.
