There are three ICANN new gTLD contention resolution auctions scheduled for next week and for the first time Amazon and Google will go head to head for a new gTLD extension in an auction whose results including the amount paid will be made public.
Not only will Google and Amazon duke it out for .Buy but they will be joined by Donuts and Famous Four Media.
In the new gTLD ICANN auction for .Tech will include; Frank Schilling’s Uniregisty, Donuts, Google, Minds + Machines and Straat.co the group that is comprised of the principals of the .Co registry, that was recently sold to Neustar for $109 Million.
Although many gTLD strings which had more than one applicant, have been settled by private auctions and other methods, there has only been one ICANN new gTLD auction held and it was on a IDN which sold with a high bid of $600,000
Unlike private auctions in which all parties sign a non-disclosure agreement, and the amount paid by the winner is not publicly disclosed, the results of ICANN are by ICANN’s rules are going to be public, so we will know how much each string sells for.
Moreover under ICANN rules not only are the results of the auction public, but the bids each applicant places from round to round, as well as their proxy bid (called an exit bid) are going to be made public.
Of course the winning bid for the ICANN auction will go into ICANN’s bank account while in private auctions the non winning bidders for each string would get the proceeds of the winning bid

The Federal Reserve thought they were the only one that could create hundreds of millions of dollars out of thin air.
